I remember seeing that go kart link somewhere, I think it was the post on that "How to" I was talking about.
I'm learning as I go and now got the tools to start. After reading Lou Franklin's book I'm starting to get it, but as in the case above there has to be a starting point with the DVM or...
Thanks, that's one of the books I have been reading and re reading.
I'm learning to understand the black box diagrams and trying to compare that to the voltage charts I found.
What I should have asked is where you would start say with a Cobra 29, It receives and you can hear the bench radio...
Has anyone ever posted a "how to" on troubleshooting say from the final back?
I do remember one a few years back that was helpful on no power-no receive.
But I am looking for a step by step on how to test/repair a 29 with no receive, using a scope/signal generator.
Hi Sonoma, Thanks, the radio does not have a pa jack or pa switch. I guess what I am looking for is a starting point and a place to find the correct voltages. Where I'm confused is that I have the frequency at the antenna jack and it changes when I change channels, but no mod.
I'll see what I...
I'm trying to resurrect a Superstar 120 and need some help troubleshooting.
The radio receives, no transmit modulation.
I have a carrier (as seen on the scope) and frequency at the antenna jack, when keyed it also moves the needle on the bench radio.
I removed and tested the final and even...
Thanks again Rob, I'll give a go tomorrow. I even noticed that the dull ugly wheat bulb came right from the board into the RF meter, so with my DVM I wired and LED to the bright dim center position and got it to work on bright/dim.
Now I'll get the brightness of the channel selector and it will...
No Rob, just a 29ltd. I picked it up for cheap and when I opened it up I noticed that R118 and R119 where not there.
IC 1 Has the cobra logo with on other markings
IC 4 is two rows of 3 pins, instead of 10 next to each other.
TR 23 is called Q23 and turned horizontal versus vertical.
L11 is...
Cobra 29, 2011, made in Vietnam, beige board.
Does anyone know the location for the resistors to control the brightness for the meter and channels selector.
I found some info on the 29 black and chrome model which uses a total of four.
But on this board none of the resistors are marked on the...
Thanks, that's what I was after, the 6 amp across the hookup jack, we have a lot of drivers that slip seat and it's easy to hook the alligator clips up backwards.
Like I said when viewing videos on line I saw one the was in backwards.
When installing an extra diode across the input jack to protect the one on the board from being hooked up backwards, is it anode towards red and cathode towards black?
I have seen a couple of videos where it looks backwards.
You can check out "Sailnet" for ideas if it's still around a lot of useful info.
I use to sail on Lake Erie and Shakespeare fiberglass is the way to go.
When you drop your mast for the winter, seal and reseal the connector to the coax. Cable tie the coax to the top of the mast or it won't...
