Checking out a new to me, Uniden Grant XL radio this evening, and plugged in a microphone that I use all the time with the Cobra 148 GTL, and get a nasty back squeal through the mic. Doing a search for mic wireing , I do not see any difference? Anything change between Malaysia and Philippine...
I set mine right at what the manual called out for, I believe it was 105".
If someone has a different number for a improvement on performance, I am all ears.
I actually made the antenna itself 1/2” shorter, and pumped it up in the air plus 2’ to 27’ to the coax connection.
So far, my receive appears to be a little quieter with the choke.
As far as SWR, if I shorten Additional 1/4” I should be at 1.1 channel 1& 40 perfect. Next time it’s down.
When...
I had my antenna down briefly to add a rf choke, Adjust total length down another 1/2" to get a closer SWR match, and to add another 2' in total height to the antenna off the ground.
To answer a few of Marconi's questions:
Standing on the ground, resting on the coax connector to top of first...
It is the frying bacon type sound. Worst during The middle of the day.
I’ll try driving around The neighborhood as you suggested. Is the power company obligated to fix these problems when they happen? Also, how far away would this affect my station?
Never noticed any difference in the rain.
Yes, RF noise at the receiver.
Station electronics grounded to a single ground rod with 6’ #4 stranded.
RF noise drops full dB with PL259 coax ground disconnected at the receiver, and only touching center conductor.
I believed that my station suffered from this noise. I have about 60' running from the antenna to where it inters the shop, 30' of which is air born.
I ran the test, disconnecting coax screw fitting, at the receiver, with just the center conductor making contact. Test result shows a full dB...
