    12 meter

Oh, Eduardo in Cuba. I've worked him twice on 10m in the past 2-3 weeks. Not very chatty, is he? Haha.

What kind of antenna didja make? I'd like to make a quad helix for satellite work...they seem like great dedicated purpose antennas.

    CB set up

As stated, the wattage rating just has to do with the durability of the components used. The W1000 and W5000 are actually the same exact antenna for instance. The W5000 just uses thicker wire in the coil than the W1000. Antennas are TUNED for transmission. A "perfect" antenna for 11m CB...

    CB set up

Your radio setup is only as powerful as your antenna. Your antenna dictates how well you transmit and how well you receive.

how many watts for a amp

The RFX75 isn't as powerful as some people make it out to be. It has a pretty dirty output to it, so unless you can measure dB off a scope to be sure you're measuring off your actual audio wave, and not some gross peak, well then take all readings with a grain of salt. 40w-50w PEP is a more...

A question regarding travel with VHF/UHF radios

Mem #1 Local repeater Mem #2 Local simplex (146.420) Mem #3 Calling (146.520) :D Simplex rules. Nuff' said.

Amateur trying to setup my "Rig"

You are correct, co-phasing really isn't worth the time or trouble. Run a single whip. Attach it to a good ground plane. Bigger coil = worse efficiency. Best efficiency would be a 102" whip off the center-back of the cab mounted to a solid piece of metal that connects with the metal frame...

Quick disconnect mount, and take it with you when you leave your truck.

    Mobile 2 meter antennas

I use an MFJ-1728B base loaded 5/8 wave 2m antenna. It's about the size of an atypical CB antenna, and the range on it is unbelievable. It works great for simplex and repeaters...If you're talking to bases, or off of repeaters, 10w is all you need with a 5/8 wave!

Ground the signal side of your coax when it's not in use.

    small or portable SSB radios?

Yaesu FT817. Sorry, QRP-portable isn't exactly popular with CB.

How to care for old radios?

If they've been sitting a while, power them up slowly. Turn them on, then slowly turn the DC voltage over a few minute period

    Need help selecting a HT

The Yaesu is submersible and is built like a commercial radio. The Wouxun isn't.

    Roof mounted Wilson 1000

A magnet mount doesn't ground out as well as actual contact does. Capacitive coupling I do believe is the name?

    Though not Ham related...

I love cooking, but I don't really call myself a chef. Buying fresh, fresh, fresh and finding a local butcher are probably the two best things anyone can do.

    Cobra 19 LTD Mods?

Align it, fix anything that's broken, fix/replace scratchy pots. Ensure that modulation is set to 90-100%. If you're driving to an amplifier, you should make your output power variable. If you want to use it alone, consider the IRF520 mod.

So.. then.. this site allows discussion of illegal CB stuff?

 You should go to QRZ.com and look at the QRO poll. Lots of hams using more than 1.5 kW on amateur bands. You should look some of the signals the AM guys on 75m are producing. They exceed limits by just a bit (by a bit, I mean a lot). Better yet, spend some time on 80/75m...

So.. then.. this site allows discussion of illegal CB stuff?

I think being a ham who has never touched a soldering pencil is a larger crime.

Why doesn't he just move the sign? It's the easiest solution.
