coppers must be selling them, you dont see them for sale seperatly because they come withe the radio when you buy it. coppers likes to keep them unless you pay to have it expanded.
i second the nomination for the galaxy 88, i loved mine and make many contacts with it. there not very stable on sideband so you do have to mess with the clairifer a little as its warming up but that's pretty much needed when ever you are talking on 10m. people are everywhere not just the few...
there always illegal on cb. you could use it on 10m but your radio lacks ssb operation so its all but useless as a ham radio. there sold under the guise of a ham radio because they are now type approved for cb use and illegal to sell or operate.
you could legally operate the connex on...
at the peak (may-june 2013) you will need some power to even talk a few miles down the road. shouldn't be as bad as the last one but you will be dealing with +60db from sunrise to sunset of static chatter. i strongly suggest talking am down a few below 1 or ssb up on .555 or around there. there...
i tend to agree, the one time ive ordered from coppers nearly everything was junk. the coax had a short about 40 feet in, the right angle pl259's were garbage because they were shorting as well. the shipping was really high. honestly i would order from ebay before coppers/ hy again.
did they change the pll to a 8719 or does it still have the mb8734 pll in it? the original mb8734 isn't modifiable for channels so it has to be changed.
no 5k available without having the clarifier slide and making ssb useless unless you can source a small 10 turn pot. that will work for 5k and regular tuning, but finding a small one will he hard and expensive. they haven't made small ones in 15-20 years and when you find them the correct ohm...
it will work just as well with 1 ground radial the same length as the radiator. i used to use a dipole but lost a a lot of east/west prop so i swapped to a simple 102" whip mounted to a fence pole. works good for me locally and doesn't care where the signal is coming from.
ss3900 is terrible on sideband, where most of your dx'ing is done. a uniden, emperor, summerkamp, etc 2510 s hard to beat for a excellent receiver and ssb stability. others like the rci 2950/2970 but they do have quite a bit of static or "white noise" that the cpu generates that will overpower...
