If he already has a 6 pill the 8 pill won't make much difference. He will see more power on his watt meter but people he's talking to won't notice much if any improvement.
If that's what he want's then that's what he want's. If money is the issue it's not worth it.
Hard to say. People used to list CB amps as ham amps trying to stay out of legal trouble. If you new to all of this I can understand why that would be confusing. You kind of have to know what you're buying.
We're talking about the same thing. The transistors in these amps are round and white like a big aspirin. Pill is CB slang for a transistor. Usually a Toshiba 2sc2879.
The last time I looked at a genuine Toshiba 2879 they were nearly $200 a piece. There are some counterfeits out there that look...
You couldn't buy 6 real Toshiba transistors for $500 a few years ago and I know they are insanely expensive now. Something is fishy about that. Ill bet he's using the knockoff Toshiba look alikes from Ebay. RFparts is the only place you're getting a genuine Toshiba 2879 from.
Edit: Im not...
ICA Manufacturing has most of what you need. I haven't bought any pill amp stuff in years but back then you didn't save much by building it. Builders save by buying in bulk. If you make some mistakes and have to buy more stuff you'll end up spending more. There used to be free amp plans floating...
I can see where the sleeve would really help. I can feel a huge difference with the top cover off. Thanks for the blower info. It's mucho better. Loud is ok by me. The amp is remote operated from the garage. Tuned for 3885 and I can move around quite a bit and not worry about retuning. The ant...
I agree with that. I could never get the braid to not look sloppy. I had a Cobra XL350 with the braid and it was the nicest looking one I've saw.
I don't believe it's necessary with the copper boards everyone uses. Years ago CCM said something about it being done on printed boards to make sure...
I read somewhere that Wizard didn't use a choke on the low Z side of the tank but have saw pics of Wizard amps with them. I don't know what the truth is, but If I bought one I would make damn sure it was there before using it.
In the event of a plate blocking cap short it might save your life...
Has anyone tried to buy Ameritron parts lately? They used to list all amp parts on their website and they could be ordered from there. They've changed things up and I haven't been able to find the parts lists.
The thing I didn't like about the AL-1200 was the 3cx1200a7 has less plate dissipation than the 3cx1500 and needs more air flow. The Ameritron blower is a little light in the loafers for both. Not an issue for legal limit ssb but hard to keep cool on long AM transmissions. It didn't help that...
It wouldn't move at all. I was on my way home from work one Friday afternoon, went to pass a car and broke the center hub out of the Valair single disc clutch. It had it towed back to the shop that night and pulled the transmission to see what that loud bang was. It sat out in the parking lot...
The last online purchase I scored on was a clutch from Valair. I could have drove 40 miles, bought it direct and paid tax. I ordered through a company in Utah, paid no tax and got free shipping. It drop shipped from Mineral Wells, TX and was here in a couple of days.
