11 meter is very quiet?

The radio was really hopping today but the neighbor was home all day so I didn't even try. But I enjoy hearing it when it is active but I have enough to keep me busy and out of trouble. Got the lawn equipment in the garage and ready for spring service. Enjoy the DX while you can !

I was on for just under an hour, and conditions were a bit fickle. But oh boy... here comes @unit_399 booming into my radio room. I had a few good qsos before I had to run, and JJ was one of the best.

Brother, you were loud and sounding choice! I am curious how the Q6 Pro is going to work out for you. Hopefully as good as that Cobra.

After we signed off, I was copying the mail and you came out of my speaker and shook the whole shack. 30+ on my meter. Just as fast, you were gone. Silence for the rest of the day. Mother Nature in control again. Good while it lasted. 73 Amigo

Yes sir, mother nature was definitely on our side for a while there. I was on my new QT60, (AT 5555N2) and was giving it a test run. I'll say the noise reduction seems slightly better than the q5n2 and I absolutely love the vfo mode! It's too bad I didn't have more time.
Next time, my friend.

The radio room is down after another wind storm finished off the ground plane yesterday. The garage station has been partially done for months aside from stringing up the attic dipole with balun. This evening I hung the dipole in the attic and back on the air in the garage for now.

Back to topic.
Now using the Rodney Stryker 955 with dipole but condition were a train wreck.... was still able to make a few contacts before calling it a day.

Conditions have been off-kilter here all week. It was a little better today but still not great.

I haven't had much radio time as we had our deep well pump fail ten days ago, and we still have no water. We are hauling it in 20 litre jugs from a friends place down the road a couple kms.
Like everything else these days, pumps are garbage from China too, and we've put two new pumps 170 feet down the well only to have them barely work....both defective.

So now I am waiting on a third one... this time a different brand altogether.
Meanwhile back to back wind storms have caused long blackouts and have now shut down ferry service for the night, and my girlfriend, the car, and the new pump are all stranded one island away until the storm abates and the ferry starts running again.
Never a dull moment when you live way out here on the edge of civilization LOL!

We absolutely know how you feel, Sean. Up here in the mountains is the edge of civilization too, and we've had our share of power outages, no water, windstorms, etc. But we wouldn't trade it for anything. Our bonito paraiso.

Cheer up guys, you could live in this little town with all their restrictive ordinances and have neighbors who live on their Postage Stamp properties drooling over your 1/2 acre, & trying to control all their neighbors. They run and complain to town council about all their neighbors about everything they do because they are dull boring & stupid with no hobbies or interest. The high lite of their day is to set on their porch and watch their neighbors work. I have all I can do to keep from Mooning them ! LOL

Well I hope I planted the radio seed today. I had my grandson come over and we talked back and forth with my 2 Q6 Pro so I could see how they both sounded . Now I'm satisfied they are both sounding choice on AM & SSB so time to move on to upgrading the firmware. SSB was rocking so it peaked my grandsons interest and I told him if he wants to get interested I would help him get started. Time tells all tales but he is at that age where the Little Head thinks too much ! LOL

Turned on the base at 1:30 Pm. Dead Silence. All channels. Heard a few stations deep in the mud, but nothing I could copy. About 4 Pm I began to hear stations from Europe. Swung my antenna to the east and had multiple contacts. First was 300 Hugo on the island of Sardinia off the coast of Italy. His 3-element Beam on the flat side hooked up great with my flat side quad. The Icom 7300 and a 500W amp was loud and clear into Colombia. Great 30 minute QSO on 27.395LSB. Then 012 Jim - Dublin Ireland, 163 Steve - North Wales UK, and WR251 Mark - Birmingham England, all in succession on 27.445. The uppers faded out and I tried 37LSB which was a zoo. So, I shut down for the day. Nice conditions into Italy and the UK. Hopefully again tomorrow.
