11 meter is very quiet?

That is a nice looking shack! How do you like the Anytone Smart? I recently picked one up.
Nice radio, but I used conductive wire glue for the mods to open it up,so small for solder, but for 60 bucks it rips on AM, put some heat to it and rocks on the superbowl(which I dont use often, but I do, once in a while, lol) 73's Ocean One Cape Hatterasradio mods.png

Good deal. It does seem to be decent quality. I used a soldering iron to do the mod on mine, and they must have used some good silver bearing solder because it took a lot of heat to melt it.

Fiberglass will do ok in some elements but cant physically out last the stainless. I know here in Florida the sun will eat right thru any clear or gel coat protecting fiberglass
Yeah, Shakespeare makes some good marine antennas.

And by the way, if fiberglass antennas are such junk, I wonder why the antennas you see on military Humvees are fiberglass? Redbeard needs to teach them.
Fiberglass whips arent as damaging and dangerous like SS when the tiedown comes off and it whips around. A lot of off road courses dont allow rigs with 102 SS antennas because spectators have been injured. Im sure the same has happened to troops also. Theres a couple reasons I can think of off hand maybe.

My shack is a small log cabin on the property, old KOA camping cabin I had moved here, makes the wife happy, lol. 73's

Okay time to get started. One day — after you kick off — the dear widow starts to think she’s hearing you from the previous household shack, calling for contacts:

1). “Tape loop” on battery-powered player + speaker (what works best today, is compact and low amp draw)

2). WiFi connection that son or SIL can activate, change volume, etc.

3). At the end, holler to her you wanna sammich (your version of a familiar-to-her-request)

4). And don’t forget the ultrasonic dog whistle for Bowser.

If you gotta hide it behind drywall between the studs, well, hitch them britches, son. There’s an afterlife to see to.

Ok, if that makes you feel better. Just backing up my statements with some actual experience. I get that some people can't handle that.

Btw I apologize if any of my statements offend you. That's not my intention, nor is getting into any kind of contest with you. But I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to mobile HF.

In the ghetto they have the an old talk-down tradition of, “Doing the Dozens”.

On 19 Radio-Weird, there’s Truckstop Radio Rambo which is pretty much

whatever you just said is WRONG

RB stubbed his toe . . . but (ha!) I’m pretty sure that fella is right

As it’s about alternating being placating and walking up to (not crossing the line of) “insulting”. All hands on deck. Never know where the next voice is going based on their lead-in. Funny as hell phenomenon as more join in.

Content irrelevant.

Who loses his cool, loses

Ain’t gonna work online, RB. (Durn).

Bam! 313 Auxucal, Mex @ 19:07 LSB 38. This is first contact on the new/ used President McKinley. On a 102" SS Whip. Maybe Belize will come in also. Pretty regularly make contact with Belize.

Just mounted the 102" to the truck. Scanned am ,upper and lower and nothing. No a peep from anybody.
Will move the truck away from the house and see tomorrow if I can hear anybody.
Quite here now. Faint voices, not intelligible. Had only the one contact from Mexico, then nothing.

Glad you got another antenna. Guy I spoke with yesterday had a bad ass tri-mag. If you are going to stay with mag mount check those tri-mag's out. The one I saw could possibly lift a VW Beatle.

Yea, that car quest one had to go.
So I mounted it to the inside bed rail. 2 mounts, one on each side.
I picked up 2 k40 4' fiberglass whips with mounts and cable for just over $20 . so I mounted the 102 on the left side and one 4' on the right side.so I can switch the cable between them.
The 102" I just grabed two box wrenches and straightened it out.
Amazon wouldn't let me post my review on their shipping of this antenna . It came from their warehouse in Washington State.
