This last few months has been pretty good around here in western Canada with some Sporadic-E propagation covering the Pacific Northwest. I enjoy talking with fellow Canadian and USA operators on 11m, more specifically on CB channel 38LSB. Although, this enjoyment has been hampered due to the fact that a local operator chooses to cause interference rather that use the radio for what it is intended to be, a communication device.

The operator in question goes by the self designated callsign of CDX304, of which he uses uses on this site as well. He rarely frequents and contributes(?) anything to the forums. Initially he attempted his best Trump-ish impersonation to intimidate, bully and one time even called me outside to fight it out. Fight what out? After I listened and did my research, I ID'd him over the air and the verbal communication ceased. Although, now all that he uses his Flex 1500 for is to cause interference with any other operator trying to communicate by keying up with a single tone or a sweeping audio transmission that spans 20khz or even transmitting on multiple frequencies at once. I'm not on the radio 7/24, but I do know that whenever the propagation allows and I try to start a QSO with Larry (WR178) or any other OP, he's there to cause interference. This is a seasoned radio operator. Works as a local professional radio technician. A middle-aged family man with a wife and two kids behaving like a 10 year old with his first CB.

So why this thread? Its 11m, disorganized, out of control, dead. To be expected. No local authority cares or would do anything about. So then is it not up to the remainder of the community to look out for itself and expect other participants to behave as well so that we all can enjoy this hobby together? The radio community is as small as the local area here in Edmonton, Alberta or as large as propagation will allow around the country or world. I have heard many other radio OP's around the continent have remarked as to where the interference is coming from. A number of other members such as the child molester, ebay seller thief, waffle eating Texan, snake oil tweak-nition, to name a few, have been called out over the years on this site to shine a light on the cockroaches that infest the hobby. I don't need this. The radio community is no better for it. What does the WorldwideDX Radio community think?

Yes, it is up to the CB community.

Education helps.
We keep shining light on the cockroaches and they will run and hide.
But we need to keep shining that light on them.

Waiiiit a minit!!!

Just how did this guy get a Flex 1500 to work on 11 meters?

I thought that radio had some sort of double-secret super firmware lockout for 27 MHz on the main circuit board, where you can't diddle it?

First I had heard of that radio transmitting on 11 meters.

Then again, maybe I'm just way behind the curve.

Nomad,
If memory serves me right, 304 was messing with the 1000 software then I recalled he was looking into the 1500 also. The firmware can be hacked if you know C#. I got one for a buddy a few years ago and had it hacked for 11m and widened like a 5000. I'll take my 1000's though .

I think I have an idea why he is being the A-hole that he is. This guy lives only a couple of miles from my location. Initially, he bitched and complained that I was running a class C amplifier. I am not. And if I was, be a gentleman and inform the operator of the problem. I would and I do. I came across this thread from another forum discussing SDR overload (see below). This is probably why he got his panties in a knot. Since we are not on speaking terms, I doubt if I'll get the chance to discuss and get an apology for this mess he has started. Just maybe he may login here and straighten everything out.

This kind of stuff happens on cb and the ameatur bands. It continues to happen because these people get some kind of reaction from their behavior.

Everyone that acknowledges them, complains about them, yells, threatens or tries to reason with them is giving them the attention they want. Unfortunately you can't get everyone to ignore them and the fcc has better things to do.

I remember growing up in the mean streets of brooklyn,ny there was one guy beating up people with bats, they had some type of tracker where the pint points to there house.

I prefer to inform. Just shining a light.

I understand you have good intentions. My comment was based on how the agitators I have ran across behave. There have been some real screwballs in my area and they all seem to share some common traits. CB kidd is right, most will run and hide if they are exposed but it's not hard to be anonymous behind a microphone. Some of them are bat shit crazy and just don't care. Others will stop talking and play sound clips, throw carriers, etc...

Once exposed the agitators usually chill out for a while and come back once they realize nothing it going to happen. Once the initial shock wears off they are back at it until they get bored. I wish there was a solution (legal, non violent solution) but as long as they are getting any type of acknowledgement they will continue.
