I'd like to know something about these 2 different size 2 pill amps...
One has the 2290's in it.....the other has 2879's in it...

I want to know, what kinds and size tube amps can these amps be used with for a driver ?..

What brand or name amplifiers are they? Reason being there are big differences, palomar, texas star, x-force, and then different classes. Would it be best to drive a tube amp with another smaller tube amp?

A 2 pill like to try a DM or maybe a BM Technology amp...
Kinda doubt it been a XF amp..

Or maybe a JB 12 or 15 modulator...
Used to run a JB 12 years ago..

I personally dont like to drive an amp with another amp. I would go with a high powered radio to "drive" a HD amp. Maybe a 1-pill though.

1)Stability. How is an outboard amp more stable than an inboard amp?

2)Less chance of over-driving. That's operator error.

3)Better control of power. See#2

4)Less mess connecting things up. See#2

5)Less chance of things going wrong. See#2

6)Generally lower power consumption. I can't see that personally.

I did the high power radio thing a few years ago, an external driver is a lot more flexible in my opinion.

More tuned circuits interacting in the presence of upset impedances or RF fields. More common that you may think.

True but nevertheless a consideration. You asked how it was different. this takes that issue out of the mix.

You can't. I can. Add up all the stages and efficiencies and how much TOTAL power is being generated to produce that final output number and see.

I always thought that driving a big amp with a high powered radio reduced potential impedance mismatches that could occur when running 1 amp into another amp.... maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but that's kind of a rule I've always lived by. :confused1:

sure, there are more than one way to skin a cat, but there is only one way to scrub a cheese grater.

anyway, to put it another way- linear amplifiers do not like to be connected to coaxial cables.
