75 amp power supply

Had to get one to run my 2970n2. The shop I bought it from said that the 52 amp supply was just not enough for side band. It worked fine on am but the display would go out on ssb. So it will be here Tuesday and if that does not work radio will have to go back to Ranger...It would pull it down when I tried to modulate.. So I guess we will see..

Hey undertaker the max draw this gentleman in the video can draw on usb and lsb is 34.XX amps with the radio wide open . A good stable 50amp supply should be able to push 300 watts with very little fade and certainly no display shut down ! What Brand and Model is the power supply if you dont mind me asking ? Also are there and current flow interuptions like thin gauge wire between the radio and the power supply ? If your running 8-10awg or bigger you should be fine at 14.5 volts or whatever you prefer 13.8 etc etc . So either the power supply is overrated and mislabeled , It has bad voltage regulators in it , weak transformer perhaps ? Or someone snuck 4-6 pills into that radio without your knowledge lol !

If you already own a 52amp supply (that you know will really push 50amps +) hook her up to that and you should have plenty of juice to make that baby scream .

The alternative is hooking it up to the battery in the car with the car running and see how the radio performs on a wattmeter .

Honestly, if it takes a 75 amp PS to run that rig you should be able to cook your breakfast on it. I seriously think something is wrong if the rig is drawing that kind of power...either that or it’s tuned so hot that it’s not going to last.

13.8 x 50 amps = 690 watts.
13.8 x 75 = 1035 watts.

It’s a 200 watt radio...if only 40% efficient it should draw 36 amps at 13.8 volts.

Was looking at the megawatt 50amp. But you state not enough. There is a powermax 100amp rv power supply on Amazon for $180.
 
It is a pyramid ps-52 regulated power supply. But it is kinda old have had it for years... The new power supply will be switching which the tech recommended.

My old pyramid don't put out worth a darn either, except alot of RF. Personally, I feel they are not rated correctly. Will never buy another.

What do the meters on the PS say the rig is actually using...such as at peak, what’s the current and how much does the voltage drop?

How about a 75A HP 1200W Power Supply (DPS-1200FB) for $20USD? I picked up a couple locally last month for that price.

These are excellent, I run one as well. Rock solid on voltage stability and almost silent. Only drawback is the most I can get out if it is 13v.
Very easy to convert

I have a Dell rated at 100 amps or so I picked up for a song. Supposed to be able to get 13.4V easily, and higher with the right mods.

The one above looks to be 75 amps, from what I can see if the label.
