A very LONG overdue thank you!

Walt , waited a long time for mine , couldn't afford one when they came out & this one cost me more than when new ! I don't have many bases like some , just & Old Comstat I'm working on . But in the process of finding a decent Browning , I cut my teeth listening to them , lot's of my locals have them . I'm in the need for that Browning Ping !

No worries, I got into cb in the 90s. I started off with an old realistic am only base. Now, I have my Grant Xl back.
Worth the $$$ IMHO.

Well you guys just made my weekend!

thank you so much for the flowers Walter.

I wasn't on the forum much at all this weekend because of family obligations, and i wish i could say it was a BBQ LOL.
(apologies to you guys in the colder climates, it's great BBQ weather here in the SW)

It means a lot to me to hear that people are happy with work i did for them.
yes, i charge for my time, but really that's just to buy more radio junk and keep the wife off my back about disappearing into the shop for hours at a time. (that sounded harsh. she's the greatest wife a radio nut could hope for)

I really do love to work on radios, but not just for me. i get more satisfaction from restoring something that someone else will enjoy rather than adding to my shelf collection.

This hobby has given me so much over the years, and i feel like this is my way of keeping it going.
This forum in particular feels like my online home and that's why i tend to do work mainly for members here.
I would like to extend my thanks to those who run this place!

Walter's radio was the first i ever saw get to 200% positive peaks using Exit13's PPE mod.
He gets ALL the credit there, i just copied what he did LOL.
the secret is that Walter runs his deadkey at 1 watt which really allows the radio to swing up, also Walters radio just responded very well to the mod and is honestly the highest modulating radio i've put this mod in.
when the deadkey gets set to 2 watts, they do about 140-150% positive.

Here is a sneak preview of a thread i'll be starting once i get finished with this chrome dome for a member:

You are more than welcome. You do deserve those flowers. This Grant went from a great radio, to flat out amazing. I really do apologize that it has taken me this long to post this thanking you.

Like said LC , looking around for another base ( Browning ) if I find one my old girl ( 2k ) is headed your way ! She's been good to me but been a while , might need a good " Tune Up " . It's the shipping w/ that tank that kills me !

boy you've got that right 357!

it seriously costs upwards of 50 bucks to get a base station sent out these days with any hope of it arriving in good condition.
and the 2000 is even bigger than most!

I actually had a 2000 get sent here recently, and while packed very well with lots of the correct type of padding, UPS still somehow blew the mic jack right into the inside of the radio, breaking the plastic that it was installed in.
i honestly don't know how they did it since the box had no holes in it.

box with padding, and then put that box in a bigger box with padding (at least 2" around the original box) is really the only way to go, and even then, it's not uncommon to find glued on things hanging by their wires inside a radio or amp.

Lc , When I received mine from SC many years back , the UPS driver handed me the big box , corner almost torn off , those :censored: foam peanuts falling out , I looked @ him & said " Houston we might have a problem " ! " Do you know what's in that box " ? He looked @ me shrugged his shoulders & drove off ! That's the reason that mine is a 9 1/2 instead of a 10 . Luckily it worked fine & no damage except a small scratch it Chrome front plastic . I complained to the main office , still waiting ....... !

You guys worked for me you’d be scraping off shoe leather looking for a new job you shipped my electronics that way. (Emoji of the reddened, by gosh & by golly face).

Harbor Freight, Amazon, all kinds of places have foam-lined transport case knock-offs or overstock.

Original styrofoam & cardboard is form-fitted and good for that warranted new gear. Maybe, that’s all it was good for.

A collector piece (OTOH).

I’m getting home tomorrow after three weeks out and I’ll be stopping off at HF for an Apache 4800 X-large case at $48.00 (not $245.00 for the Pelican equivalent ). That’s not the one shown, but of the THOUSAND types available, I’ll bet we can find a few for gear storage AND for shipping.

An overdue gift to my son will be comprised of AM/SSB radio gear. And the case above is what all of it will have to fit. That limit (size) will put a stop to my open wallet (ha!). A radio set ready to go, mobile or stationary. (Mobile antenna in PVC; capped. The stationary ones will be his to figure past a roll-up wire type).
