Interesting on your thoughts here. I am the finding my AT5555Nii the opposite - I prefer its RX audio over many radio, including an FT450D, an FTDX10 and even my TS990S which it sits next too. I would say it has the quietest, non-fatiguing RX audio of most, if not all other 11/10 rigs.
However none of these sound as good as my Elad FDM-DUO with SW2 software - that RX is amazing. :) But the AT5555Nii is one of my all time favorites. YMMV I guess!

I guess it just goes to show you that everyone's ear is different when it comes to receiver preferences. I've had an FTDX10 and Elad FDM-Duo (in addition to many other high end receivers like Kenwood TS-890S, Anan 7000 DLE MKII, Flex 6500, FTDX101D, etc.) Loved the SSB receive on the FTDX10 (and 101D). NR on 1 and RF gain just slightly less than 100% and it was one of the quietest, most sensitive receivers I've ever used. And I've had a lot of high end receivers like TS-890S, Anan 7000 DLE MK II, Flex 6500, etc. Mind boggling that you'd rank this Anytone 5555 N II above the FTDX-10! FDM-Duo wouldn't make my top 5! To each their own...

Again, not dogging the 5555N II, great little radio for what it costs and what it is.

Interesting about the RX/TX bandwidth settings on the new board radios. I wonder if Stryker claims that the RX/TX bandwidth is configurable? That has to be where this all started right? I remember hearing about this feature before many had their hands on a v2 and there weren't any youtube videos or forum posts about getting into the service menu yet...

I think I read Shadetree saying he thought the rx/tx bpf settings did what they were supposed to on his 955 v2...

I agree, on the DX10 - it is one of the most sensitive receivers I have used, however the recovered audio on the DX10 using DNR of 1 (also my favorite setting) doesn't sound as good to my ear, and the recovered audio from the AT-5555Nii! That's not to say the DX10 isn't a better receiver - it is! But that NR and very quiet RX on the AT-5555Nii is outstanding, especially given the price difference!

The ELAD FDM-DUO takes a LOT of adjustment (in SW2) to make it work they way it does for me. And I find it absolutely superb. (However, I will add that this is on SSB. On CW it isn't fantastic (sidetone issues) and AM/FM always needs lots of tweaking.

One last thing? I keep the mic gain on the radio set to 36 and the Gain on the mic set at 5 or 6. Tone at 1 to 2.

I am looking for a good desktop mic for my N2. I just tried an Astatic 302-AST878DM and did not like how it interacted with the SSB delay on my amp.

My radio is in a very quiet basement so noise cancellation in not a concern. I just want a mic that performs like the D104 I used to own back in the day when I could just leave the mic on the desk and speak at a normal volume. Some desk mics now seem to need you to hold them in your hand up to your mouth or lean down to within 6 inches of them to be useful. Kind-of defeats the purpose of an amplified desktop mic to me.

Can you leave the Zetagi on your desk and speak into it in a normal voice or do you have to get up close to it to use it?

The person Scott is talking to is using a Zetagi MB+5 desk mic at arms length on a Stryker 955 V2 (same board as your Anytone 5555 N2)

Thanks for the video link. That's good to know. In another video on his Youtube channel he mentions that you really need to be within a foot of the mike for it to work well.
 
I own the zetagi and went back to using the modified 104m6 hand mic. It just sounds better on the 5555N2. Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't Wow'd by the zetagi.

As far as using the zetagi, I found you need to use it about like any other non-amplified microphone. A foot distance is about as far as you could get for it to pick up your voice well enough. Again, many others here love the zetagi so it could just be a matter of likes and opinion.

Care to share the modification you made to your m104m6 hand mic? I know D-rail sells modded m104m6 hand mics with modded V1 strykers. I know they can sound good.

With a power mic, this voltage is going to the amplifier output in the microphone and is not helpful in any way and could possibly damage the microphone or radio or both. So with a power mic, always choose dynamic no matter what type of element it uses.

A great electret mic to use with these radios is the Uniden bc645. I use one on my Stryker 955 and get great reports. Listening on my station monitor, it is a very natural sounding mic. On sale now for $15.

I've been eyeing that bc645 mic you speak of. Wondering how it would behave with the quad 6.
By chance do you have any photos of the inside of it? Wondering if it'll plug and play with the quad 6 or need some modding. By looking at photos it might have enough room to add the channel switches on the top.
Just brainstorming.

I have used it on my Lincoln+2 with an adapter, should work the same on the 6666, although I have not tried it. I think there is enough room to put channel buttons, I will crack one open and snap some pictures.
