This whole 389 thing has me Baffled ! I need to do more research ! According to what I found via " Google " they don't list a " 389 " as a motor option in a 67' GTO , I call BS on that ! I've seen one & know who has one w/ Factory 6 pack . They list the "400" as the motor available & 326 ( I think ) . Something ain't smelling right w / " Google " !:LOL::whistle::confused:o_O
The following was lifted from the history of Pontiac V8 engines.
In addition to the induction changes for 1967, Pontiac also increased displacement and revised the cylinder head valve angles to improve airflow and further enhance output. The GTO’s 360-hp 389 grew to 400 and the new 4-barrel engine was every bit as powerful as the former Tri-Power mill. (Photo Courtesy Tom DeMauro).

While a lot of the 400's came with four barrels or the Tri-Power some people like to tinker. I ran three types of carburation on my engine while I had it. Four barrel, Tri-Power, and the gas dumping Three barrel. Not very good for the street. Fuel delivery was not very precise or linear. But 1350 CFM is hard to pass up.
th

In my opinion the Tri-Power was the better option for street and strip daily driver.(As long as you drove easy) Four barrel was good for this use as well. But the Tri-Power was the best for gas milage and daily driver.
The three barrel is good for door stop as it is too light for Boat Anchor.

Tall , Totally agree on Holley's Biggest Mistake .... The In"Famous" 3 Barrel ! What a flop ! I worked @ a Speed Shop during my High School years ( Never did bring home a paycheck !:D ) But I sure had one of the fastest street cars around !:LOL: Anyway when we opened we purchased a Holley 950 3 barrel . We sold the Shop to a major competitor 4 years later , guess what was still sitting on display ? ...... Yup you got it that 950 ! You couldn't give that POS away ! The new owner said " You can take that Door stop w/ you !" Just funny you used the same words !:eek:o_O:(
