Astatic 575m6

It's not the switches fault from what I can see, but the way that Astatic attached them to the board. If they had only included an attachment point on both sides of the switch, they wouldn't be failing.

The cover gets lifted from over pressure while the mic is keyed and the base is soldered firmly in place. This causes the tabs that hold the cover to the board of the switch to bend on one side and the contacts inside of the switch loose connectivity. Once this happens the tabs will never be able to be properly bend back into shape to hold the switch together, and the board inside of the switch can become damaged from either the top pulling off, or from trying to repair it.

It might even be worth blobbing some solder onto the pins that don't have solder points so that they won't just pull through the board. I haven;t had to try this method, but I think it might be the best bet to try and keep the switches in tact.

Mine came attached at every point...all four corners, and each terminal was soldered.

This is photo from the other thread, but what mine looks like:

Here are 3 of my 575's for comparison. I have more, but I see no reason to dig for them.

Mic #1. This is an older one. (I wish that they had kept this much more robust design)

Mic #2. I was wrong....only one pin secures the case to the board.

This is microphone #3 that I have used for years on an HR2510 and then on my 2950DX. Same thing...only one pin securing the case to the board.

In this pic you can clearly see one of the case pins hovering above the board.

That's interesting. They must have changed that after any of my mics were manufactured.

I guess were comparing 575 switches to D104s...not sure we were all on board with the comparison here?

Regardless, excellent photos. Thanks for taking the time to document.

I like to looks of the older switch. Would love to have one with channel buttons as well!

I have a 636 on my 5555 and have been thinking about putting the channel buttons on it. The stock mic was so handy in that way. When the switch on my m6b was goofing up on my 980, the channel was changing too so I think the 980 has this capability too.

I like the sound of a 636, and it seems decently constructed, but it always seems the output is low?

That would be very cool to add channel buttons on a 980!!

Yes the 636 is a noise cancelling mic, but the 5555 has enough mic gain in the menu to run any mic. I only had to turn it up a little to get the 636 to modulate correctly. I also run one on my Stryker 440 but it has a lot of mic gain too.

Sorry about that.

I just wonder why no one has made a good reproduction of the 575M6. I know hundreds that would buy one. People are buying the originals now for 250+.
Because MFG know there is no market for it. Selling hundreds of a product is not enough sales to warrant design, manufacture and distributions. All they are doing now is taking older designs and cut production costs to the bare min and hence the bad quality out today.

I have to wonder then from all of this, is the only downside to the 575 the switch? Is the sound quality and everything else the same as the old style?
