Ball tip on antenna

OK... 24.99 + $30 shipping, 9.99 handling = $69.33 total.. I can get them from Amazon for under $45 shipped.

BUUUUTTTT...... DX Engineering location, free pickup..

Address: 1200 Southeast Ave, Tallmadge, OH 44278

They are inside Summit Racing Equipment, about 45 minutes from me....... If I had only known that last month when I made 3 trips there for parts for my Jeep!!! Looks like another trip coming up here soon!

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't read the fine print on shipping/ handling. I bought 4 for $25 ea. from a shop in Houston while back. He bought in bulk of 10.

Maybe I'll start an online site, buy in bulk, and charge enormous shipping/ handling fee. $10 just for touching it ain't bad. Wonder how many are actually shipped direct from manufacturer?

Mine showed up two days ago. Two day delivery. Already had a pair of the CB3 from A-Parts Outlet. Looks like I’ll “need” a pair from ICA, ha!

DX just wants too much. At that price the copper 3.5” round float from boilersupplies will be a lot more fun. And more effective.

Bait that sucker.

I think you want to start a page detailing the history of corona balls.

Show some rare examples (not for sale; part of personal collection), secret Japanese WWII pieces, and the fabled but never found Russian pure Amber corona discharge ball sent the Emperor by Tesla himself.

THEN you can sell bulk shined to a blinding chrome-like finish.

Shipping might take awhile as the US Navy order hasn’t completed, you tell them.

Sell that sizzle. The aroma. I can get gristly steak anywhere.

I'm thinking some of you missed the point of why I want it - not worried about corona effect, I'm only running a tuned Cobra 25. I need it to clip the antenna down to the corner of the windshield frame so I can fit thru a door a couple inches taller than my CJ5 is. That, and the parking garage I use a lot lately is a 6'6" clearance - I don't feel like playing streetcar dragging the ceiling as I go thru...

If you know a good welder, could heli-arc a stainless ball bearing to tip with 309 wire. Not sure how long it would last. Those Corona Balls could be tacked. Friend of mine lost the replacement ball shortly after install. Getting a replacement 102 whip is the best in my opinion.

Dissipates static.

Are there any sources for these? I know, odd question, but when my garage door and my 102" met last night, the door pulled that ball off, now I cannot tie it down for low clearance places (my garage!)..

327, over time I acquired a few old used 102" whips and none had a ball on the tip. I used them on my mobiles and my base antenna using 5 x 102" whips as a 1/4 wave ground plane with a mobile L bracket and a radial hub from an A99. I never had any problems, no lightening strikes, no corona blasts, and static comes and goes.

If you want a tie down, try a small SS hose clamp or a small set screw joiner plus a bit of wire for a hook that will work in your hold-down clip. If you loose that, you've only lost a couple of bucks.

Complain to Detroit: bring back the rain gutter on sedans!
AMAZON still has the correct gutter clip.

Or get really retro:

Back yonder when this place was America, you came over a rise on the big road in Texas too damned fast and saw a Tyrannosaurus Rex waiting for his dinner (an A38 Dodge idling in the median with aerial tied down) you was in a HEAP o’trouble he started out after you and DIDN’T reach out and release that whip. No light. No siren.

Unless someone removed it the cobra 25 should have a high value resistor to bleed any static. That works better than a little ball at the tip of the antenna. 50k to 100k ohms will do the trick.

If all you need is a way to tie it down just put a bend in the tip. A torch helps. If you want a new 102 try local ham fests. A guy had a barrel full of them for 10 bucks a piece at the last one. Ham store vendors are usually there also and you don't have to pay shipping.

Slowmover - That top tie-down is the exact thing I have, bought it on Amazon when I bought the whip.

As far as I know, that resistor is still there. The guy tuned it up, but didn't clip anything.

That'd be awesome to fine them for $10.. I do not know where any ham fests are in the area, I'm a lowly CBer that is lucky to hear about when the local gun shows are... Ham fests would be even rarer.

There is a Gun Show this coming weekend nearby and a Ham Fest nearby same time...different directions.

I-85 South 20 miles from me to the Gun Show.

52-North 30 miles from me to the Ham Fest.

Life is so complicated at times.

They could have put the gunshow next door to the hamfest. That happened here once. Some guys at the hamfest were complaining because someone might try to bring a gun in there. They put a bs no guns sign on the entrance that someone printed off. The sign didn't work but what they don't know won't hurt them.
