I haven't had the pleasure with the Vector 4000 yet, I will with all the talk of them someday. I've had the sirio 827, sirio 2016, Imax2000 and the 5/8wave gainmaster at my apartment, all have been @30ft. The one that gets asked about the most was the gainmaster, the locals around 5-7 miles noticed only a slight difference on my transmit and not enough to go jumping for joy. But, the ones 10-20 miles noticed almost a full s-unit increase on my transmit, crazy for a wire antenna. Antenna theory at it's best. BTW, SWR was 1.2 from 26.000-28000 easy on the gainmaster after it was in the air, that's unheard of on any other of those antennas

awsome collection! i also got a 2016 ..like it very much.. put always wondered how would it compare to a a groundplane with full size radials as the spt 500..also gainmaster has my attention too
I have to agree with what 314 said, it is that last 10 - 25miles that hear you with a GM 5/8. It really is an antenna you can trust to give you a bit extra as long as you get it high and there is no metal about. I routinely mount mine at 7 meters off the ground, usually on a hill as a static mobile station and find the performance very satisfying.
I also start to think or understand it seems to have a broad angle of elevation from very low angle 5 degrees (estimated of course) to higher angles (say 35 degrees) it does not seem to have gaps or nulls in that aperture when set up high and in the clear. As such it seems to DX with a little greater reliability than any of the other vertical antennas I have used. (that reliability might also relate to its design that reduces common mode on coax significantly, meaning it is not fussy about not having radials or other coaxial chokes, mast isolation etc.)
To this end it is a complete antenna solution out of the box in my view, as long as it is at least 1/2 wave above the ground and away from any metal objects and I very much enjoy using it. And despite initial looks it is very easy to modify for static mobile use and consequently quick to erect.
