Not good. We just got 8 inches of snow overnight, but that's the worst of it over for us. Just need to clean up the mess, and we're good to go. Last real good ice storm we lost power at my place for 5 days.

Wow ! That's not good ! I hope things turn out ok here. It's supposed to last till around 1pm or so. Looking out the window it has been a steady downpour of freezing rain.

I was just talking to a guy on the CB in Harrisburg and he said they have been telling them that they will not get to the side roads for salting as they are trying to keep up with the main highways. There are a lot of accidents.

SW ? I surely don't know how you guys back there can stand the weather ? I personally find it hard to believe that my familiy and I are from the Pittsburg area , we have been in So.Cal now for 45 years , I still have family back there that I really don't even know. The reason why I say this is that here in So.Cal , if it's 60 degrees , IM COLD !! IM guessing you guys would be running around with your shirts off in short pants at 60 ! It costs up to about 1 dollar a therm (which is about 1 hour of heat from our natural gas heaters ) in the winter months our gas bill goes from say 20.00 a month to 50 or 60 a month ! What does a heating bill run you guys per month back there in that ice box ? Peace

I have radiant heat in the ceiling so all is electric. With all heat ,hot water, and house electric and radio use :) I run around $175 a month for everything during the winter. But yes, 60 degrees here would put me on a days ride on the motorcycle ! LOL Or out on the lake in my Jon boat.

SW,

Had the same storm go thru here last night into this morning. Temps are just above freezing now but there is still a good 1/4 to 1/2 inch coating of ice on the lines and limbs. Some of it is already melting off. Power company here is pretty good about keeping the lines clear of limbs, I still have power. I just hope that the ice clears before the wind on the backside of this system hits this afternoon. Several counties about 50 miles south of me are under wind advisories. At least they didn't get the ice like we did here. Ice laden trees and wind are not a good combination. On the plus side I did get an oppurtunity to work some 20mDX this morning since I got the day off due to the icing. Stay warm and safe.

Man, Wayne. That sure is some ice ! I know what you mean about wind and ice. It's really something as Wed. we had a front that came through with 50 mph winds. I can imagine if it happened today with the ice it would be looking like "The Day After " here today. I just got up from a 2 hr nap . I did hear some DX this morning on 20m and 75 was coming in good. But I get up around 4:50am every morning, drive 1 1/2 hours to work, work all day and drive the 1 1/2 hours home to arrive about 12 hrs after I got up LOL ! I decided a good nap was in order :) as I am working tomorrow since I couldn't today.

Today was the first day out of 3 that the roads were not total ice after that storm went through. It was so cold the road crews wouldn't even try to salt the roads just sand at intersections. It's pretty bad when it has to warm up to snow and when it did most of the local municipalities agreed that it was safer leaving that snow/sand on the roads over the ice for traction. It still amazes me how many idiots still think that their 4X4 will stop on the dime,or allow them to cut off others on ice covered roads @ 60+ MPH. I just ensure that they are okay and that help is on the way as they sit in their vehicles in the ditches, laughing as i drive away.

Well the ice has melted or come down in chunks in the lower elevations. Actually had a little sunshine this afternoon as well. The tops of the mountains were glistening in the sunshine. Fortunately this was well in advance of the wind which started about sundown. Everything is supposed to re-freeze tonight but at least here where I am the ice is gone.

Hey, with a 1 1/2 hr drive sounds like you can get in some serious mobile HF time.

I do have a CB and 2m in the vehicle but sad to say I don't have an HF rig for mobile. I guess I can put a 10m rig in there when conditions are better.

That's the same stuff that came through the Midwest Tuesday night.

35MPH was pushing it in my 4WD.
