chinese made cobra cb radios?

If you really like the night watch feature look for an older Uniden Grant LT if you can find a clean one at a decent price. It would be best to have a good tech go through the radio as well. Some of the best "Cobra" radios ever made were actually built by Uniden.

Totally second this. I am old school and don't like the Chinese Cobra's. I love my Grant LT. I drive at night a lot for my job (Pilot Car) and the backlit knobs and all really help. The Grant LT's are built old school, good quality. Maybe a little pricey to find one though. I bought mine for $20 at a local CB Shop from the Boneyard Pile, and repaired it myself, it just needed a simple repair, he just didn't want to mess with it or was keeping it for parts. I have used it for about 7 months now, no issues. I use it for AM for work, and for SSB when I am not working.

Finding a SSB rig in the wild is rare and that Grant LT is even rare online. Good score finding that one. I would love to find one but for now my china cobra will have to do. If I find a classic version or something like that Grant or a 148 then I will swap it out. Looks like this year is a total bust for swap meets and hamfests. :(

Did the new Cobra 25's get the cheesy rotary encoder the 29's got?

I had fun hotrodding my 29 NW and was thinking about picking up one of the factory refurb 25s.

I had the Nightwatch Cobra 29 & the 148 & the 148 was Terrible on SSB because it would not stay on frequency. It was unlike the drift of the Export CB's just jumping off frequency quiet often so I sold it quiet quickly.I much prefer the side microphone Cobra mobiles & refuse to own or use the front microphone models.

SIX-SHOOTER

Side Mic ‘em or nuke ‘em.

When I bought my 29 Chrome and hooked it up then went to change the channel, I thought it was broken. No real positive "click" on the selector that I was used to. I knew right then and there that radios had gone in a horrible direction since I'd last been in the hobby.

Ya I am a channel surfer and the "action" on my new 29NW its horrible. Im keeping my eyes out for a parts radio to rob the real channel switch out of to replace the cheesy encoder with.

Thats why I was wondering if 25 got the same treatment or if it still has a real switch.

If I'm not mistaken, all of those have gone to an encoder. The encoder isn't so simple to replace with the normal channel selector either as you'd have to have the whole pcb and wiring. I'm not so sure if the wiring is even the same. Best bet is to get an old radio to replace that one or get used to the encoder.

Isnt that the worst? It has that nasty rotary encoder feel to it. I hate those things. I want the solid clack clack clack when i turn the knob. Not a wimpy tick tick tick

And if you get in a hurry changing channels, it will not follow the knob. It'll either lag really bad or will stop altogether until you slow down. Not that I do that much, but it was something I noticed the first time going from 19 to 28.
