Watched Snake's video on this Cobra 29 . . .
He used a VU meter to align the receive. Hey Snake; get a SINAD program and try to learn how to do it right.

Another thing: when aligning a receiver, use no more than 4uVs from the sig gen. Otherwise, the AGC circuit will cut in and skew your results.
A VU meter cannot tell the difference between signal, noise, or distortion. So, all you've done is got all three mushed together - and call it 'peaking the receiver'. Nothing could be further from the truth. You could use your ears with a speaker and do what you are doing with that VU meter and attain the same lack of accuracy. No real advantage or difference. Either way is
wrong. Net result will also likely yield front-end overload.
It's true that you've gotten better gear; but are still as yet unable to utilize them.
Take all of this in and do better. Or, disregard it all and comtinue not getting any better at it.
