I have a cobra 25 peaked and tuned in my truck. My friend wants to trade me a Uniden 78 for it. What do you guys think? I would have to use my cobra mic on it. Cause he don't have one.

The 78 is bigger to start off. Now it also depends on what 78 he has like XL, LTW, & Elite. LTW and Elite has weather channels to them. It basically comes down to what you prefer. Now I would go with the 78 anyday. I have a 78 Elite and a Cobra 25 NW ST. Both are good radios but I prefer Unidens over Cobra just for my personal preference. Like I said it depends on what kind of 25 you have and 78 he has.

They basically transmit and receive the same , both are decent radios . The 78 is bigger with more features , sometimes a SWR meter is a nice extra compared to the 25s not having one , your 25 is tuned ,is the 78 tuned ? you might add that if it's not and if you would like to have it tuned would cost you a few more dollars to have it done. IM a 25 kind of guy myself (I like them from the early 80s), but mine is also tuned for my amp and I like the noise blankers in the 25's more so then I like them in the 78s (at least for my car anyway) but the 78 still has good noise blankers all the same. yes the 78 cost about 40 to 50 dollars more then the 25s but your basically paying for the extra features and that's all good. So one really isn't better then the other as far as performance goes , one just has more features. If you are happy with what you have and it works to your liking ? maybe you might just want to keep what you have already , if you have noise in your ride and the 25 takes care of it , the 78s noise blankers will be slightly different to your ear , for me and my car at this time , there's no way I would run a 78/29/76/ been there done that and nothing topped the 25s for me !! Good luck to you

Well on my 25 the only thing i can see in the dark is the channels. And i can hear a little pop or tick in my radio speakers when someone is talking. I was wondering if the uniden would solve the noise problem. And i know i could see it in the dark. It is the 78 elite.

dway87- what kind of mic do you run on your 78 elite?

what antenna are you using.
antenna is the most importent part of the set up

let me repeat that...
antenna is most importent

The only mic i have is a stock cobra mic. Do you all think it would sound ok on the uniden?

i like 25s and 68's, they are great radios and fit in all kinds of places, but if the 78 elite is in good working order, I would trade him in a heartbeat. the 78 elite has wx channels, good audio and better rx than all other cbs I have had.
