CRE 8900 SSB - don't know if anyone had posted this yet

I need to order the cable. The plug on the CRE is the same as a mini USB cable. I have several mini USB cables so I wanted to make sure they wouldn't work before spending $25 on another one. I plugged it into the radio and the computer. The computer didn't recognize it. So looks like I'll be buying a cable.

The mobile radio store emailed me and told me that he's getting a shipment of cables for the 8900 in(y) after the first of January.

Yup - gotta have "their cable" for it to actually connect. The programming is definitely what makes it fun though.

Like Duster said - I've had so many stations tell me it sounds better than other CB's, Exports, and even Ham radios I've used on the air. Go figure. I love the way the Road Devil sounds on it but even with the stock mike people think I'm using a desk microphone.

Not a big AM radio but hands down I've gotten more compliments on the sound of this radio than any other I've ever used. Not sure how they will hold up long term, I doubt they will still be working as good as the HR2510's that are 20 years old. I ran into one glitch on the the original model which required a reset but the second version hasn't had any issues so far.

I bought a Red Devil for my Magnum S-45HP. Got it in today. I REALLY like the results so far. It is a brand new radio and came with a factory power mic. I drive a big truck and the background noise was just way too much. I tried a RK56 and an Astatic 636L. I got reports that the stock power mic was tons better than either. Maybe you can answer this for me. My theory is this. I know the RF Limited echo boards have an audio pot to adjust audio coming out of the board. I'd assume this radio has an RF Limited echo board and therefor has that same audio control. The instructions on the echo board say to install the mic you wanna use and turn up the pot till it feeds back and then back off a little. I'd guess that RF Limited sets these radios up for the stock power mic. So in order to run a low power noise canceling mic you'd need to open the case and adjust the audio output on the echo to that mic? So I assumed I could get a noise canceling power mic and kill two birds with one stone. Also even keep my warranty from the place I bought the radio. Does all this seem accurate?

My deal

I have a DTB tuned and aligned Galaxy DX-959 with a RF Limited Xtreme 2018 mic. I have the mod inside the radio set right even for a stock mic. My 2018 mic is cranked all the way up and it feed backs on talkback. I only use the talkback when I want to check my echo volume and echo settings. Otherwise I leave the talkback off about have the 959 at near 100 percent modulation. In noisy situations I use the noise reducer function on my 2018 mic.

I bet I can get out now. This isn't the optimal mounting spot for the antenna, but the 102" whip is definitely doing a much better job than the 3' K-40 was. I was able to talk to my cousin 20+ miles on LSB. Hopefully with more grounding i'll get the SWR's down more. They are 1.5 on 1 and 1.3 on 40.

Anybody that knows anything about 11 meter radio knows full well the 102" whip is the best all around antenna but mounting and it's looks have been the issue. Today I use a Wilson 5000 on the roof of my Chevy Tahoe only because if I mounted a 102" up there it would bang on everything. I was a big fan of the Antenna Specialists Big Momma then the K40 but really the Wilson 5000 out talks and hears both of them by a long shot. It might not be a 102 but it does a good job for second place.

I had a wilson 5000 base load. Drilled and mounted to the center of the roof of my suburban. Paired with a Galaxy DX 98VHP. That combination was one of the better radios i've had the pleasure to run. I talked to my dad who had the same model galaxy on his ford pickup with a 102" whip for 70 straight line miles up in the Texas panhandle. I love that antenna and would love one on the jeep, but its a jeep and i haven't figured out how or where to mount it yet. When I put my spare tire back on the swr's went back up a little with the whip on the jeep. I wonder if there is something i could put over the bottom 2 feet of the whip to "shield it" from the spare and the defrost strips in the window?

Try aluminum foil, I use to use that in the old days to get rid of ignition noise from a point distributor

Do you have a spring or other extension. on your whip?

Those numbers are quite good for a whip on a Jeep in that location.

Still kicking myself for selling my Jeeps.

I don't have a spring or extension. I'm thinking about trying to fabricate some sort of extension. My coax broke so I have to run a new one. Guess I'll have lots of experimenting to do.
