CRE 8900 SSB - don't know if anyone had posted this yet

So compared to the Yeticom which do you like better?

I'm feeling more love for the CRE. Of course, I am somewhat jaded by how they screwed us MKII owners.

My take on the whole unstable PLL issue is that it must affect many owners. If they were to do the right thing by fixing it, they would take a huge financial hit.

I have been seeing some stateside sellers offering the MKII for well under $300. I paid $375 shipped for mine. Now, with the known PLL issue my resell value is much like an old Ford Pinto.

If Yeticom can ship and dump their remaining MKII stock on our shores, they should also find a domestic warranty center.

The CRE, Anytone and Stryker exports appear to be good rigs, so far. They also have the added benefit of domestic warranty centers.

I'm having a CW issue with my CRE. The company assured me they will make it right. At least they aren't claiming it's a harmless quirk that can be fixed by turning the radio on and off, then correcting the issue in a later version.

Stay away from the MKII's, unless you can get it CHEAP!

What microphone are you guys using on the CRE 8900? My stock mic sounds horrible. I have a guy wiring my RK-56 or I was thinking of ordering an Astatic RD104E. I really like that mic on my Magnum in the big truck. It really woke it up.

My stock mic so far. You may be picking up background noise from your rig. The road devil might be what you need.

Unless your CRE is used as a base. I don't know why it sounds bad, unless your gain is to high, or you have a lemon mic.

I'm going to be switching to a RD myself. Even though the stock mic performs well, it's just to small and light for my big paws.

I just bought a new S45 recently. Think I'm going to sell it and get another 8900. I really do like this little unit. Can't wait to get the CW issue fixed.

From the facebook page for the at-5555 / cre-8900 and all other clone radios of this model:

AT-5555 net All mode All regions 27.605Mhz on Sunday Dec 30th 2pm afternoon session for possible dx and another session at 9pm for local. Good luck with the contacts and finding those in your area. Listen all day for contacts outside your area and timezones. :)

Are the newer Road King mics still as good as the old older ones? I do like their looks and feel over the RD. May just go that route instead.
