CRE 8900 SSB - don't know if anyone had posted this yet

Stock mic for me. I've read where others have worse with power mic.

Some have reported a noise canceling mic stops it. Regardless, it's an issue that needs fixed.

The only mic I've ran on mine that didn't feedback with talkback off is the road king 56. I've tried stock, astatic road devil, turner plus 3 desk mic and the RK 56. I would love to use the road devil as I am always told am audio is lacking. Lots of carrier but little modulation. Apparently the road devil fixed this for cb radio magazine. I wish they could tell me how they kept it from feeding back. M4duster did you have modulation turned up on yours or is it stock? Mine came from bells and about the only "tuning" he does is turn up modulation. I'm wondering if that's the issue. I'm actually thinking of selling it and buying a magnum 257 hp or another s45hp. Since I do lots of am talking.

I tried different levels of mic gain. It helped on AM, but the garbled SSB audio was always present. Should get my radio back soon, so we shall see.

I sent DTB what you said about the 8900 without using your name of course. I'm waiting to get a reply from him. Hopefully he'll do an excellent job tuning and aligning it before he ships it my way. Also,I sent him an email about what Star Electronics and Communications(whom I bought the Viagra board from) said about my radio's clarifier circuit voltage being too low to run the Viagra board properly and that a resistor needs changed out in favor of one that allows the Viagra board to operate properly.

I really would like to get one! From the first time I watched CBradioMag videos I've been watching and waiting for $$ to come down but it sure hasn't moved much. I hope I can get one in few weeks if I get anything back from taxes...hopefully

how about trying amazon.com I heard of a few guys getting a better deal on there. Copper Electronics has a SuperStar JA, 10 meter ssb radio for 149, easy to get 11 meters and talk great on SSB.

Getting 11 meters on the Superstar JA is the only thing easy about it.

It's an old handyman special. Also, there is still no word about any warranty from Ranger.

The 8900 is popular right now. I have mine on the way from DTB Radio. He threw in a tune and align. I'm pleased with his work on my 959. The 8900 far surpasses the 959 on SBB

Duster it is the same as the old President Jackson and is easy to mod for channels, comes with the corse clairfier unlocked and the one I have here does over 35 watts. Sure can't ask for much more for 149 dollars.

I had one. I would never recommend one for a novice radio operator. The board is very old and prone to fail. If you like old school stuff and have the tinkering skills then this radio is for you.

It's not the same as the original. I don't think anyone knows exactly what it is at this point. Has crappy AM audio to boot.

Glad I sold mine, don't have the patience to keep a bastardized pieced together vintage whatever you call it.

I do like the looks and basic classic look & feel of the Superstar but I like the CRE, and others for the software capabilities...but out of the different radios the CRE has my top billing at this point.

Turbo tax isn't a problem...its getting the Mrs last W-2 and finding all the paperwork from our house that we took huge loss on. ;)
