CRE 8900

Several people have mentioned that they can hear 11 meter stations clearly on 10 meters using these CRE radios. Not like bleedover either. The 11 meter signal shows up on a single 10 meter frequency and changes with the CB channel being heard in the 10 meter band. That points to serious image, mixing or PLL issues being caused in the frequency generation. I'm not aware if it's been confirmed the problem exists on transmit too but if it does, that may be one reason this model has become hard to find in stock.

I have the same deal with my 8900. I hear The SuperBowl on 29.555 MHz but not all of the operators. Just the loudest splatter platters.
Other than this,I like mine. Well, maybe cause it deadkeys 10 watts am as compared to my 959's 4 watts DK

Hello All: Well that's a shame about the mixing problem, hope they can fix that.

Have a neighbor that has the CRE8900 radio in his small car and it sounds and operates very well. The home page shows the radios construction, but you can't go by the pictures no doubt.

Let me add to this.
I could hear the SuperBowl on 29.955 MHz on am but when I flicked it down one channel(29.945 MHz )and used the 10 kHz function to move up one channel to 29.955 MHz I couldn't hear the SuperBowl.
Figure that.

I think I remember some posts about the cre 10khz switch problem, it doesn't actually raise the freq 10khz.

I'll have to hook up the radio to the PC and see what options are available for the 10 kHz function. I tried it out on 27.275 MHz and tried the jump to 28. Don't know where it ended up at.

No idea whats going on with that 10 kc switch.but I don't think superbowl is a good example of the problem.Kw amps overdriven is the norm.Listened to a station this morning , boasting of running 6 kw, he was 3 chs wide on the fundamental and I'm half a world away .Hate to think what bugs he would be producing.

I picked up a CRE-8900 from Bells recently. They have since sold out. I am pretty impressed so far. I wanted to try something out in the shack before moving it out to the mobile. On an Antron A-99 I have made contacts in Brazil, Ukraine, Estonia and many more on USB from New York on 10 meter. Made a nice contact on AM to Wales. For the money, I think its a great deal. Especially nice is its small size.

I too get the channel 6 CB superbowl on 29.555. Certainly a head scratcher.

Test what?

The CRE8900 could also be found state side released as the Alinco DX-10. I see they have discontinued it, but someone may find one laying around still. Software and programming cable for the radio is the same as the CRE8900.

The Alinco DX-10 is a nice radio. Works well.

Just testing to see if my smartphone will do a comment. It wouldn't let me for two years.
