Decided on a Ranger 2995 DX!!!

Snake Eyes said:
if he goes 15% above stock, that's 180.

Someone told me let them pump it up inside the radio, and get a good power mic, and put that on a very low setting.

Thus, you are controlling the audio through the mic.....

What do most ppl do?

Thanks,
Snake Eyes

150 watt sideband stock its around 100 am

I'm not for sure what Bob's CB will adjust my radio for, but I have heard nothing but good reports about his work, so.....I have decided on him unless someone says something real vile about him, lol.

The locals seem to like his work as well.

it was bob that wrote that article, he published the cb world informer a few years back. ive heard good things about his work. he was also the person that designed the top gun modulator many years ago before it became parts of magnums radios. the guy knows radios.

Coolio. I remember reading CB World Informer a few years back, and really dug it.

Now, I find myself reading a bit of it today again.

Great publication, and no doubt... Bob knows his stuff!!

a %15 power increase over stock will never be noticed by anyone on this planet . ive been told and read over and over you have to multiply your power output by %400 to make 1 s-unit difference on the other end . %15 is just one drop in a bucket towards making a real difference . if you want more power run the radio as a radio and dont try to make it a linear.......buy a seperate amp . one built with the correct ammount of devices designed to run within the design parameters of the device . not some 2x4 amp doing 1200-1600 watts (%300-%400 more 2sc2879's are designed for) .

That's true, but I believe it goes hand in hand with the entire alignment process. The radio is designed to handle more, and that's what these shops do to give you all that modulation!!!

I'm no expert on any of this stuff, but I know that a radio tuned to not exceed 100% modulation, may have difficulty modulating in the absence of a power mic.

Thus, you will need a power mic, and it is a good idea to have the radio turned up, so you can let the power mic do the work - puts less stress on the finals, but then again, leaves you the freedom to "get there" if need be.

I dunno, just my two cents!!

most exports and cb's have no problem making %100 modulation with a noise cancelling mic and some do if fine (and sound best) with their stock mic . i see no sense myself in buying a nice clean radio and jacking it up to sound like a over modulated splatter station . to each their own .

how does a power mic put less strain on the finals ?

talked to RCI the 95 is the update of the 2290 with better options..but both units are good and the power supply drive the 2,2290's with out a problem + more...
I own a 2290 and made a swing kit for it and no prower problems

this is not an opinion, ITS a FACT and from RCI

Hey Lords!!

I have noticed a lot of misinformation out there, but it's good to hear from ppl who've either "done it" or who are "doing it".

Sweet....

oh ya and it also helps knowing peeps from RCI.lol
thaT 95 rocks my friend, and as carl said don't push it its not worth it
I set mine to key 50 swinging 200 or just 100-200 for the SB220
which gives me a nice keyup of 500 swinging on the SB220

but bare radio with the swing kit i can still key as low as 4 watts doing a full swing

also the mic gain plays a big part in driving it on AM too...

theres plenty of mods if you don't need the SWR or RB button
for better frontend recieve and noise blanking...and turning the built in linear on and off through one of them buttons...
I didn't do the fast scan mod, no need to for what i do
(skip and local and a limit on channels for this)
the tone control on both units is a little harsh on bass (meaning needing more) but can be used for something in the future...
hell the main thing i like is the killer power supply and the main board is you can update it to dual finals(which i won't as the 2290's get what they need safely for drive and if i do it 2879's all the way with IRF520's driving them :)

the swing kit is not needed but i like my swing...

What I gathered from talking to Bob (and from what I remember)......It will be under 190 watts on AM and SSB no problem!

I have confidence that the guy knows what he is doing, and he does a lot for the measly $30 he charges.....

You can't beat both local and internet reports when it comes to choosing a good radio shop....!

Having said that, it doesn't do me a whole lot of good to be arrogant, just stating that I can be satisfied with Bob's work (I hope, and we'll see).

lords am i reading correctly that youre dead keying 4 watts swinging to 200 watts with that swing kit ?

RCI makes a nice radio, but do you actually expect them to admit a problem in the power supply side? You bet now they will tell you ALL those problems have been solved, thats a no brainer. I hope they do have it fixed because that ended up being a serious problem for shops all across the country sending back radio's. Several years ago they stopped selling the 2990 and 2995 for several months so they could fix the issues.
Bob's will do an exellent job on that radio and if it has anything weak he will up-grade it so I would not worry. You can understand though why people hedge their bets on cranking these radio's way up regardless of what some RCI guy says on the phone.
