EMP THREAT?

The funny thing is that now the BIGGEST pundit about Sandy Hook now says he fully believes Sandy Hook was NOT staged and blames the media for his "psychosis" Funny how he would have a change of heart in the middle of a lawsuit against him. Just saying

That one was local to me. I saw how the ambulances were not needed for the biggest mass school shooting in history. They were all held back at the firehouse just down the hill. In addition to all the porta potties and check in signs, they had a slew of crisis actors going in the front door of the fire house, out the back, around the building and back in the front door only to do the same thing over and over for the media cameras to look busy. No one coming down from the school showed a drop of blood or need for medical care. Four days later they all got their homes paid off in full. That's the kicker and city real estate records confirmed it. Who paid for that? Again, I'll believe my lying eyes over any pundit.

Hey Shockwave.......appreciate the input, but can we stay on topic.....EMP? Possibly start another thread about SH and related conspiracies. I'm game, have some things about many similar subjects.

I felt the EMP thing is relevant to radio and other associated aspects.

Oh, why bother.....

Sorry about that Redbeard. Here in CT they recently installed a new 320KV underground transmission line down the middle of the state. It's down about 8 feet below the ground and filled over with cement. I wonder if things like this make them less vulnerable to EMP events?

Probably a Duct Bank type made of river sand and Portland. They use that all the time in industrial units. It's dyed red so when you dig it can be spotted. I would think that would shield it some, especially if it were reinforced with rebar or hog wire.

Your Kenwood is a high-bred radio. Solid state with tube finals. Evey P-N junction will be fried.
If the magnitude was strong enough even the hardened military components would
suffer damage.
There have been reports of some transceivers being damaged when the op had walked
across a carpeted floor and touched the main tuning knob and the static discharge
took out the encoder.
I'm not saying the older rigs are immune, just more resilient than current offerings.

From what I've researched, if you really want a ham station that could survive an EMP, you'll need to go all the way back to the 1950's for complete "hollow state" (tube) equipment. The other alternative is to keep some modern equipment disconnected and stored in a shielded box or Faraday cadge. Only take it out and connect it after the EMP. Some store things like an extra ECM or electronic ignition module for their cars in such boxes.

Thats a good idea. But if its solar generated there may be many more than one CME. Best to wait a while before bringing out the equipment. And only if the generator fires up. Oh boy. What a mess. Hope we never see anything near it.
