Galaxy 2517 off frequency on Sideband. HELP!!

As Beetle said, you need to find out if the radio you compared it to is also correct.

But if you have heard from a lot of other radio operators that your radio is off freq on side band, and the clarifier on the radio is still 'locked', then you may well need to get that radio aligned at a shop.

Get a complete alignment. You will be better off. Just take it to a reliable shop close by. Sure they have one in your neck of TN. Might cost ~$40-50; but it is worth it. Ask the radio tech to unlock the clarifier before he aligns it too.

Because his radio is right on freqency and he said mine sounded completely off. Plus he's been in the radio business 20+ years.

Some people have been in the radio business over 40 years and still learned nothing.

if your radio genuinely is off frequency then there is 2 variable inductors for usb/lsb and am,fm, you have to fit a frequency counter to the appropriate test point and tune those inductors to bring each respective oscillator back to frequency, you will find the inductors to tune and the test points in the dx2517 service manual under alignment procedure Galaxy Radios DX2517 Service Manual

they have to be tuned with a non metallic trim tool (a screwdriver will almost definately break it and cause misalignment), as the ferrite cores are very fragile, your counter should be at least 6 digits, preferrably 7 or 8 digits for more accuracy, although for most intents and purposes close enough is good enough on a cb band where few people are actually on centre frequency.

if you don't have at least these simple tools or understand what i've just wrote its probably best you get a tech to do it for you, as you can do far more harm than good if your not sure what your doing, screwdrivers have no place in radios, except for removing screwed in circuit boards.

its also possible if the report you got was on sideband that it could be an audio problem rather than a frequency alignment problem, him telling you your miles off, isn't overly helpful, if he told you how far off he could clarify you in, would give far more usefull indication of the fault, especially if he can't clarify you at all (which would be more indicitive of an audio issue).

The problem you are having is that the Galaxy 2517 has a split clarifier. The fine controls receive only. The course clarifier changes the tranmit frequency. This makes ssb operation dificult but there is a simple mod on the galaxy web site that will tie the two together so your receive and transmit will be on the same frequency.
After the mod is done the 2517 is a great ssb radio.

You will need to take the Enterprise back in time to let the op know that.
