Galaxy DX86V mods

I just picked up a DX86v. The previous owner had the dimmer switch changed to a roger beep. I want to change it back to stock so the dimmer works. I traced the wires and they plug into the board at J10 RB. I assume that means roger beep. This radio isn’t supposed to have a roger beep but I’m sure it’s a shared chassis with a model that does. I can’t find where I need to plug this in for the dimmer to work. Anyone have any knowledge of this?
Also I’m looking for the VR adjustments. This thing is cranked a little high for my liking.
I have found several diodes doubled up on the board. Is this factory? It appears it is to me. Solder side of the board looks untouched.
Are there any worthwhile mods to be done. I like a clean running radio. I like doing anything that increases reliability or good clean sound. Thanks.

So far I'm using DX979 cbtricks reference as a guide for the DX86. Same AM HI/LOW power VR's seem to work on DX86V as well.

VR18 for AM low power and
VR14 (to the right of VR18 and slightly below R263 -- with radio face toward you

-- on my board the PCB printing for VR14 the "4" is kind of messed up and it looks like the top of an "8", just a small circle...

Anyway, those are the adjustments for AM LOW/HI, to turn it down if you need!

I have been eyeballing this radio as it is one of the few Galaxy ssb radios still available. The 959 is out of stock everywhere. So I gather that it is like a 979 with dual finals and uppers and lowers? Seems strange that no information is available. Maybe it's not made by Ranger?

It's a ranger at heart as the pcb shows. The innards are very similar to that of the mirage mx-86hp and close to the 979.

Sad to see the Galaxy line drying up and even worse that what's replaced some are Halloween colored.....

Better grab them while we can I guess...

There's still a few 949 and 959's available from a few spots unless you're wanting away from the big export size chassis

I was liking the size of the TRE 797 that I already have, then I found the 979f at Effingham Radios and was thinking about it. Then I stumbled across the 86v for a little bit more. For the upper and lower channels and dual finals, I think the 86v is worth the $40 extra dollars. So I have been looking up information on the conversion and mods. I don't need another radio, but I can't stop thinking about it. I will probably order it this week.
