Thank you. The radio is pure factory stock and I'm going to try using it to drive a two-pill driving a ten-pill for skip talking.
How about an old original GE 3-5875? Can the RF output dead-key be adjusted?

Oops! My error!Trick question?
Thank you! Yes, the 3-5871 is AM only. The radio is 100% stock with (as per BIRD) 3 watts and works great. I'll let the "sleeping dog lie" and enjoy the "old timer". Why fix what isn't broke?CB Tricks shows two of those, one with the letter "A" suffix after the model number, and a "B" version.
Strangely enough, doesn't mention one with just the four digits and no suffix letter.
I remember that model as AM only.
For the most part legal 40-channel radios only have that adjustment in sideband models, but not the AM-only ones. The AM GE radios can have the tuning adjustments detuned, but that tends to reduce both carrier and peak modulated power as well.

The GE 3-5875 SUPERBASE arrived today and it is unmolested and pristene and I don't have the heart (guts) and expertise to remove the covers and tamper with the ceramic pot. Factory set 4 watts dead-key as per the BIRD Wattmeter.
One word of warning.... Those radios have a ticking time bomb capacitor in them. Look up GE Superbase on YT and watch Mikes Radio Repair. I've had 2 of them. One I had Mike fix (he lives an hour from me) and the second one I did. Both had the specific cap that had leaked and ate away at the traces and other parts. Get it replaced ASAP and maybe a complete recap. They will always be one of my favorite radios!!!!The GE 3-5875 SUPERBASE arrived today and it is unmolested and pristene and I don't have the heart (guts) and expertise to remove the covers and tamper with the ceramic pot. Sharp looking "old-school, plain and simple" radio.
Wow, thanks for the heads-up. The original owner informed me that one capacitor has been replaced but he does not know which one. Maybe I shuld remove the cover and "check for leaks".One word of warning.... Those radios have a ticking time bomb capacitor in them. Look up GE Superbase on YT and watch Mikes Radio Repair. Take the bottom cover off and look at the center of the board. It's the largest cap on the bottom. Hopefully it's a newer one!!!Wow, thanks for the heads-up. I paid $30 for it BTW. It was maybe the find of a lifetime......
