I Miss....

I REALLY miss the days of being a traveling musician in the late 60s and early 70s. We were treated like gods by the girls, like criminals by the public, and like threats by the boyfriends. There were times we couldn't eat because the restaurants threw us out, or other customers would threaten to kill us. There were motels that refused us, even tho the VACANT sign was well lit. There were small towns around the country with big-bellied sheriffs that would escort us out of town. With all the hassles, the threats, the kids chasing us wanting to cut our hair, the terrible or lack of service by motels and restaurants... was it really worth it? Bet your ass it was!! And I miss it, terribly.

I miss going to the video store and using the key to rent the movies in the back room. I miss barber shops with copies of Playboy in the magazine stack. USA 1, Back when your only choice of automobile was mainly a Ford or Chevy, rich people had Chryslers. white cowboy hats, Silver Bullets, Saturday Morning Cartoons.

Kids don't know what they missed, like scraping hair off a boiled hog and thinking about fresh cracklins ......
The good old days.

we have that out here in southern Louisiana. I was out near Lafayette
the other day. cracklins' with the meat on it, all greasy, with the
hot powdered seasoning.

but I miss walking into a large Radio Shack in a bigger city, and picking
a bubble packaged 2SC1969 off the wall, for $1.99,
and then later, they were selling the IRF510 mosfet.

I was in an antique store with the XYL earlier today, and on a peg they had Radio Shack packaged electronics. 555 chip, double flip flop, and a small audio transformer were what I saw, with more stuff behind those.

They may have had more stock than the actual Radio Shack in town.

I miss when all McDonalds food did not taste the same. RC Cola in 16 ounce bottles, My grandma made soft ginger cookies with the white icing on top, made with love using real lard. Back when it was almost as fun Christmas shopping at Radio Shack with all the new displays, than it was opening a present. Sears and auto parts stores selling guns. I can still remember when Sears had the rifles and shotguns.

I Miss... restroom stall poetry- things people did Pre-Internet or BC- Before Cellular. 14 inch 70 series tires. Purposely trying to break a Craftsman tool just to get a new one. Women who look sexy while smoking- they no longer teach that skill in high school. Come on.. Everyone of you knew one lady that could do anything and keep the cigarette in her mouth.

I bought a 1916 Spanish Mauser at Woolworths back in the day, and a Ithaca shotgun from Montgomery Wards. 1978ish
I bought a Sears .22 bolt action rifle with a scope (via layaway in 1968). I was pretty proud of that thing, and carried it around with me almost everywhere. Back then, in a smallish town (about 10k) it was nothing to see kids walking up and down Main st. with their rifles headed for their "secret" shooting spot in the woods. That'd never happen in today's world. I also had a Mossberg shotgun on layaway at Woolco, but canceled it 'cause I was just getting into CB.
