Icom IC-2730 Review

The body of the radio is 1 5/8" tall. The bracket is shaped such that it hugs the body very tightly when fully engaged past the mounting holes. The arms of the bracket would then extend past the body and could be trimmed and new holes drilled. There are vent slots on the bottom as can be seen in the above pictures but they do not extend very far onto the bottom of the radio. I believe as long as the sides were not blocked there would be adequate ventilation so Velcro to the carpet will likely be an option but having a slight air gap would be best. Perhaps @Fuzzybr or others can supply more info about their installations. My radio is not mounted in the vehicle as of yet as I am waiting for antenna and mounts to arrive next week.

Okay, this radio sounds workable. It's surprising how difficult it is to find room for transceivers in these small, older trucks. Anyways if I come up with anymore questions I'll start a new thread...this is kinda off topic.
PS. I passed my Tech license test with a 100%...can't wait to get my call sign!!!

I'm debating between this radio and the Yaesu ft-8800r. I was wondering if their is any way for the ic-2730 to receive the public safety bands or somewhere in the 800Mhz?

I'm debating between this radio and the Yaesu ft-8800r. I was wondering if their is any way for the ic-2730 to receive the public safety bands or somewhere in the 800Mhz?

From my owners manual, the listed frequencies for a USA radio are:
RX 118-174 MHZ 375-550 MHZ
TX 144-148 MHZ 430-450 MHZ

just got one and Im loving it.

however got no luck enabling the crossband feature.

here's what i did

with the radio off, I pressed the two MAIN keys together with MONI and then power

pressed menu the scrolled to EXMENU

pressed MW then scrolled to OTHERS

pressed MW and when i scroll INFO/CLONE/RESET are all that comes up

it seems that I didn't activate the RPT menu during the !st step

what did I do wrong?

or do I have a defective unit?

getting frustrated over this issue... NEED HELP BADLY.

TIA!

Try This:

To Activate Cross-Band Mode
Before you activate cross-band, set the frequencies you will need. Frequencies can be set in VFO or using Memory Channels, or also using VFO and a Memory Channel.
Note: Once this procedure has been completed, the cross-band feature will now appear in the menu unless a full reset is performed.
1. Press and hold both MAIN keys, MONI, and then press power.
2. Press MENU.
3. Rotate a tuning knob and select EXMENU.
4. Press MW. Rotate a tuning knob and select OTHERS.
5. Press MW. Rotate a tuning knob and select RPT M.
6. Press MW. Rotate a tuning knob and select START.
7. Press MW. Rotate a tuning knob and select YES.
8. Press MW. The display will show both bands with rPt listed under the frequencies. The cross-band feature is now activated and you may operate in cross-band mode.

To Exit Cross-Band Repeat Mode
1. Press Menu.
2. Rotate a tuning knob and select YES.
3. Press MW. To return to cross-band repeat mode, perform steps 2- 8 as above.

If the repeater menu item isn't showing up after the button press, it might be a good idea to check if they changed the feature selection diodes.

I myself have a IC-2730E and on it, I had to remove a diode D319 for the repeater-enabling key-combination to work. Before I did that, the key combination did nothing. From what I've read, the IC-2730A should come without that diode.

It might be worth contacting Icom dealers about that, for those who are uncomfortable doing it themselves. In one Icom UK video, they mentioned that they will enable the repeater, if it's needed.

Also, some distributors might not be up to date with the changes needed. People at the place where I got my radio didn't know that diode removal was needed.

HI.. I believe that this is relatively old but would appreciate any help here. I have the icom IC-2730D and would like to expand the TX range. it currently has a range of upto 440Mhz that is standard. I have also looked up forums mentioning to remove the D307 and D315 diode, which should solve my problem . Unfortunately the unit I have doesn't have these diods and am currently lost. Any help right now would be appreciated. 20170918_113259.jpg 20170918_113355.jpg
