I got a imax 2000 up now only able to get swr at 2 can't seem to go any lower not sure if it is the tuning rings because when there loose to turn they are real sloppy like the threads are striped. It has 35ft of coax and it about 40 ft in air

My first question is how you only have 35ft of coax and are able to have the antnenna at 40ft off the ground? How is the coax routed as to only have 35ft of it?? Just curious.

Need more information.

Put both tuning rings together, NOT separated.
Adjust so BOTH are in the middle of the adjustment area.

Wrap an RF choke at the feed point.
( google ugly balun) something like 5 1/4 turns of your coax with 4" inside diameter.

Take VSWR readings, write down the channel with the lowest vswr reading, then go higher in frequency until you get a 2:1 VSWR write it down, then go lower in frequency until you get a 2:! vswr, write it down, post the results in your reply, this will assist in knowing which way if any to tune the rings, up or down

Also need to know what type of VSWR meter you are using.

Bring the antenna down to the ground where you can adjust the rings easily. still need to be mounted on a mast pipe 9 feet or better would be nice.

You can use the coax you have or use the shortest piece of coax you have to test/make adjustments.

Many members have posted in this thread and all have good knowledge of antenna theory so with your replies to the questions I am sure you can get your antenna tuned or find out what the problem is.

Can you get them to lock on themselves?
What are the numbers at the top and at the bottom?
yes they do lock my mistake these is 50 ft of coax will get a pic and get it in its mounted on my tower which is 4 sections very close to top and the antenna was given to me maybe that's why thought i got lucky numbers ch 1 is a 3 ch20 is 2 ch40 1.7 it seems i can only get 2 and 3 unless I'm turning it to much and over shooting. The peak of my roof there is 7-8 ft to top of tower i think this is a older tower the tower was here when we bought the house last month.I don't know to much about it but on the very top is a scanner ant and no longer in use. That was there when we moved in i tried to go up to remove it but the top of the tower sways when your up there its lag bolted to the house with H brackets but i don't like the swaying when I'm up there don't have that much diamonds like i did when i was younger not sure if that scanner ant is causing it but there not touching

From the pic I looks like the imax is bolted directly to the tower with a few feet of it running along side the tower leg. That's not going to work. The radiation from the antenna is reflecting off the tower. Take down the scanner antenna and put it at the top of the tower. Get it up free and clear of the tower. Bring the rings tunning rings together in the center of the tunning thread area... then check your swr and report the results..
