Hi guys hope all is well with you all, I was I was hoping someone can give me some info on any receive modifications for a Galaxy Saturn I just picked up from a local. I have been looking for a Galaxy 2517 for a few months and on custom CB radios and bells websites I see they offer a receive upgrade kit at checkout, and I was wondering if there are any similar mods for the Galaxy Saturn . I am going to be sending it out soon for an alignment and having the Caps replaced, and just a general tune up and I thought the receive mod sounded good to pull out some of the long-distance local people I talk to a little better. Also if anyone knows of any other mods or upgrades I should do why the radio is out for service I'm open to suggestions! Thanks in advance for any help I appreciate it

The mods are so so, not a huge receive improvement. Swap the detector for a bigger improvement. An alignment will do better then a unaligned modified radio.
711 said a mouthful. I’d add that you’ll see a better improvement if you don’t have a good antenna, to get a good antenna. Or get it up higher or in a better spot if you already have a good antenna. Better station grounding or correct station grounding would help too.
That alignment, if done correctly, will make a huge difference though, well worth your efforts. Good luck!

But you say you're going to have some work done - recapping an older radio is one of the better, if not best ways to prolong the life of that radio.
In fact you just might want to keep it just like it is when you get it back.
When you say "receive" mods, I tend to shudder, because you don't always get your money back out of that kind of investment - some radios never fully recover afterwards - because the original parts taken out and swapped out with newer - you just can't or at least they don't keep them around for, reinstall afterwards.
Try a simple tune up first - then consider - because I've done work on older radios similar to Saturns' (Galaxy EPT3600 board types) and after being told to do these mods, and then having to undo them in less than a few weeks - they use parts from an era of time and those designs were IDEALIZED as in, used the best tried methods possible - to make them do what they do.
You may think the receive has shortcomings of the designs they used in that chassis - but it's not - there are people out there that want the older chassis as OEM as possible - they simply miss the radios they once had - compared to what is around today.
So be blessed that you have something to keep using, long after many of us are gone - because of the efforts they put into it - makes them stand out as actually better than the newer technology we have around to replace it - today...

The real pork chop got to love that. And thanks for your Insight also. You know how we are we're always looking for that little bit more, I'm running a Sirio 2016 with LMR 400 coax about 52 ft in the air radio and antenna are both grounded. By this time next year my antenna will be 120 feet up in a pine tree. just trying to make my equipment the best it can be if you know what I mean. Thanks again for your response I appreciate it
You're right on the money Handy Andy, that is the first thought I had before posting this thread (keeping the Radio stock) I kind of just wanted to see if there's any improvements to be had before I sent it out. This galaxy Saturn is total Nostalgia for me it is in excellent original stock condition, I had two back in the day when they were new,trying to relive my youth. It’s funny you said you’re putting it in a pine tree, I been thinking of doing that too with my A99. Of course right now that hurricane is here, I was able to lay it down. If it was up in the tree, that wouldn’t be an option.
Curious how strong a wind the A99 could hold up in, I think the pole it’s on would bend before the antenna snapped though. I think the last section would be what would snap off. I’d cut down a 102” whip to fix that though. And it’s noisy, it’s not a terrible antenna but there is probably a better choice in a vertical.

I want a tower but a tree is free. Not to derail your thread but what can you tell me about putting it in a tree, the pros and cons. I’ve never done it.

Best thing about a pine tree is what you said it's free, I like it because it's kind of camouflaged. I think the best advice I could give you about putting an antenna in the tree is have somebody else put it in the tree for you! One you should ask around about is whether to ground it or not, most people are telling me not to,some say I better for the lightning will get it. I have never heard of anybody as far as my talking area goes have lightning hit their antenna. Couple quickies about my experience with antennas, Antron 99 and I Max 2000 are noisy but the Price Is Right. Now my Sirio 2016, very quiet, great receive, also has a very wide frequency coverage. My SWR barely moves from the lowest frequency to the highest in all my radios. It is a aluminum antenna so I'm hoping it will last a long time
