Looking at the Sirio lineup for mobile use...

Why can't we use the mag mount? I deff don't wanna drill

The 4000 is the same as the 5000 right? Or at least should be? But damn better than then wilsons in would guess as well.

Sirio Mag145PL is the one to go for, PL tells it accepts antennas with a pl259 base, Mag base has so239 socket, can also be used on sirios 2/70 range too.

You can also buy a Sirio S0239 - 3/8 adaptor that fits the mag base perfect, which between them will allow you to mount 90 % of cb/ham antennas, coax on Mag145PL was Mil-c-17f last time bought one and M17/28 when my mate got a later one, so proper mil spec rg58.

Both the HP 4000 and Megawatt 4000 fold above coil too, they are supplied with a two prong security key, but no chance of it working loose once tightened, and allows you to mount coil horizontal and keep whip vertical or at any intermediate angle. Both work superbly well, put a 100w through them and they'll hit anywhere on earth, saying that I worked Oz on 18w with one of the hp4000's from a hill in quite lean times, lost the guy but still made the trip with a barefoot Jackson.

All 3 sirio's are fantastic antennas, you'd be hard pushed seperating them performance wise, probably most efficient useable mobile antenna there is, sure the 1/4 wave whip has a slight edge static mobile, but actual mobile its more likely to rip your roof off, I've never seen a hp4000 or megawatt with mag 145pl come off at 80 mph, even the infamous avanti av261m which its modelled on couldn't achieve that, seen them come off twice at less speed.

Only down side is max power handling is about 300w, well below the 3kw sirio used to claim, but then rg58 ain't gonny handle much more anyway, if you want the best practible mobile antenna in the world for 11m the 4/5000 series are the ones to go for, any of them.

Sadly no audio gain :p , but about 100,000 Europeans will testify it is as good as it gets mobile wise, unless you drive a sherman and it can take a 1/4 wave whip. Wouldn't go dx'ing with anything else, hp/megawatt 4000 is my first and only choice, and if I carry a back up will be another one. :)

A true classic. :)

Best antenna I've ever owned. others haven't even come close both performance and style.

It's been said a couple times already, but you will be hard pressed to tell the difference.

yeah, but since i married a fine boh woman, i'll help mr one eye boh out :)

Thanks guys.. Whats the difference between the 5000 and the 4000 performance wise? Not looks....

other than the base thingy you are trying to get away from,

the main difference is in the power handling capability of the two antenna's:
look up the specs on these, my catalog is outdated but it should be out there.

dobre

I found the power differences... one is 600 ( the 4000 series ) and the other is 1500 ( 5000 series )

I asked one of the resalers and they said its the power handling and DB gain, but I cant find the specs on DB gain...

I also read that people say cut the continuous power handling in half and thats your true limit.. Is this true for Sirio? The most Id ever run would be 600w...

I just pulled the lever on the 4000 high power and the mag mount. Now I have to swap the coax out... I guess get the same? I need 18-20'

Whatever coax that reaches is what is needed for a sirio antenna install. I used around 21-23 ft for my install on my work van. Great antennas man like said by many others have made contacts all around the world from my mobile, on a magnum 257hp. Get some good coax, I would recommend some times microwave lmr240uf. Great stuff. Well made and can handle power and the elements well. This is JMO. God bless.
