maxlog M-8800

Mine arrived unlocked from 25-28 with nothing needing to be done. Interesting things I have found so far. Software with thanks to VK Rules works a treat and all bands are programmed.

No serial number on the radio or on the box.

Instruction Manual has all details about the radio and then at the end in the notes it tells "HR500EX International Version not available in the EU" And that shows from the same place indeed as the Intek which was confirmed un-officially via China. V3 Board from 31.5.2012 and the initial test is ok, sticks to the frequency like a bullet.

Locked it back to 10m, and unlocked it to CB bands and all worked a treat too

I am sure Mike will be able to get 40w out of one...but in all honesty I prefer to keep the radio down and run an amp..that way they both run cool and sweet.
As long as the audio is punchy they will get out OK with the 25w in today's skip conditions, but talking locally may be challenging without the extra grunt.
Hearing rumours of a maxlog 8900 which I suspect may be their take on the cre 8900. At maxlog prices to Boot!! No pictures yet.
cheers,
Dave

Yep the same was told here Dave, they make now the Intek HR5500 as Qixiang is not making it. Also seems that Maxlog maybe the makers of the new Alinco CB that looks the same as the 8900. Seems somewhere along the way Qixiang signed a nice deal to make other stuff and not the Anytones and the Stryker so have outsourced to Maxlog and 1 other maker

feeling the love

Yes sir, good for the price, but does suffer some of the usual 5555 faults. Agc not great on very strong signals and the rf gain pot not very linear ( thats easy fixed with a 680 ohm resistor across the pot.) Doesn't have the 5555 cw delay fault though and I love the metering. rx sensitivity very good.Tx audio is very good as is the frequency stability. Hope they can keep up the Qc!

Duster I will say the more I use it the more I like it. Recieve is very good, I would put it on the Anytone level, different stock mics seem to work better than the one that came with it according to my locals. I will also comment on it DOES NOT DRIFT A LICK. Cold or hot it is dead on I guess the TCXO whatever really does do something. My 5555 in my truck on a 10 degree day is 15 cycles off of center but comes on in about 5 minutes the MaxLog was dead on in 10 degree weather so whatever that TCXO is about it does really work. My only complaint is power. I did tune it a little not a lot, got it up to 30 to 35 watts on SSB, under a normal QSO time it got warm on the back and power came down to 20, so I guess a small fan is in order for the heat sink.

Hi Guys and Gals , first post here and nice to find the thread .

Question > So what is the go for a schematic? , the one (9000/5555) i have seen so far are different to this latest version radio .

Q2> Who would be to ask about the software? , i quickly looked and its hard/impossible to modify vb or vb6 without the source code , it sure could be cleaned up and made easy to use (like a select all choice if wanting the RB on just one example) and just where is the mic gain gone in it? no longer there in radio ?

Q3> Anyone know how to enter the diagnostic mode if there is one?

cheers all , .....

Thanks but got that already , thats how i know it could be cleaned up a-bit , also note it does not have the usb driver included which is 4mb alone , i downloaded the latest 2013 driver from the Prolific site ...

cheers....

Ok missed that ,There is new software coming, according to Simon. I already had the prolific driver installed from programming a uv-5r .In fact the uv-5r cable will work if you change the pins .Here is something I found. If you hold the func and nb buttons and turn on the radio it will go into test mode. then press and hold func again, display on my radio shows B 505 o , appears to be a fine frequency adjustment, will only change frequency a few kcs from one end of the scale to the other.

Ok vkrules thanks again for the info , i just gave that a go and it defaulted to chan 1 on restarting and then after pressing/holding function again this one showed b 504 0 , i did not fiddle any more as i'll check it out later .
Simon? , apologies i do not read alot on this site as yet so i do not know who that might be , but thanks alot anyway , coincidently i was reprogramming yesterday the c and d slots with frequency and did it take a extra long time doing 60x2 rb enabled and nb enabled and i gave up on the scan ones! .

I just spent some time on the test spot.
Changing that does alter the rx/tx and its very mild , ie up to 750 and it was still close enough for government work .
I tried pressing the other buttons to see if there was more and it just left that area of test (i was hoping for a mic setting) ...
Is it ok if i use this info on another site?

Hey Camaro I had 3 sold them all and am ordering more so I can have one for me. Great radio talking and recieve. Can go anywhere freq wise so it is really a no brainer for just over 200 dollars. The Stryker on the cheap is 339 so go figure how much you really want to waste

I think dd18 mentioned that Maxlog was coming out with their own version of the CRE 8900, I can't recall.

Anytone is coming out with a 100 watt version in the very near future. I've heard talk of an Anytone AT-6666, but no clue if this is going to be the 100 watt version or not.

I wanted to try an M-8800, but was told that it suffers CW sidetone buffering like the CRE and AT-5555.
