MegaWatt vs. Chinese Imitation 30 amp switching power supply comparison

Not sure if the (4) S-700-12's to get 200 amps are the deal at $180 a piece (or $720 total) just sayin'
Well the S-700-12 is a way better power supply. Meanwell 3000 is 13.2 volts max and is a not well filtered Chinese unit. The S-700-12 costs $110 each total $440 for four. Not $180 each. Also the 200 amp Meanwell needs a 220 volt circuit and the S-700-12s run on 110V. www.12voltpowersupplies.us

John, thanks for the link to your site. I saw the $180 ea price tag on eBay. Now I'm aware you can buy them direct for $110 +shipping.

Am I correct that each S-700-12 unit requires a separate dedicated 15-20 amp circuit when used on a 120 VAC supply circuit? If they can be switched for a 220-240 VAC supply, what is the max AC current they would draw each?

They draw 7 Amps AC at 14 VDC 50 Amp output. So you can run two S-700-12s on a dedicated 15 Amp 110 Volt circuit or two on a 20 amp circuit that has some other stuff on it. At 220 volts they draw 3.5 Amps each.
I hate eBay so I try to discourage purchases there and get people to my website or Amazon.

DuraComm has their Meanwells manufactured with extra filtering for use in RF environments but cost a lot more. It's about time someone such as Megawatt saw the need for affordable cleaner switching power supplies for the masses.
 
My Megawatt is about 4 years old. It has never given me a single problem. Voltage is constant and maintains stability under all operating conditions. Clean and no HF noise.

Just recently purchased the Megawatt 30 amp power supply to ease the burden on my Astron 70 amp power supply. I was using a 100 watt HF rig ( at 40 watts exciter drive) and 400 watt amplifier along with other small amperage accessories and the amperage draw was near the limit of the Astron but never tripped or failed.

Now I use about 40 amps on my Astron power supply while the 30 amp Megawatt easily covers my HF radio with no RF hash that can be common with switching power supplies.

For a inexpensive power supply, it works well and was designed with radio operators in mind.

It's a double-edged sword. I get a lot of questions about if they are so inexpensive they must not be very good. I guess you just can't win, haha
John you know I have been running your power supplies for years all day long except on the weekends. Then they run double duty for my ham radios as I test and get involved in the contest from time to time. Never have they wavered or failed.
I just bought one of the 50 amp supplies for use in my ham shack. Needed another one because I don't want to tear down my work bench-calibration lab just to operate my radios. I have moved my radio room out of the the calibration lab since one customer's QC inspector did not like the mixed used of my lab for hobbyist pursuits.
I went through this sites "Amazon" link because I lost your information since my last order three or four years ago. Looking forward to installing and testing one of my new radios.
 
Thanks John, that's one thing most people don't get to see is the services you provide. You have all of my power supply business in the future too. I have even abused one power supply and it still running like a champ. I used it for a electrolytic rust removal process that required it to run for eight days 24 hours a day at near maximum amperage.
Checked all of the noise levels afterwards and there was no change. They can take a beating.
 
That is a very nice complement, I appreciate it a lot. My business model is "It all about the customer". Without customers I don't have a business :) I live by my computer so people get service with in an hour or less, usually.
Now I am fascinated about the rust removal system. How do you do it?
 
My process was only slightly different in that I used De-Ionized to mix the chemical into solution. DI water is very hungry and the wash soda readily dissolves into the solution.
If you can't find wash soda you can bake sodium bi-carbonate in an oven to convert it to wash soda. I was lucky and the store had it on hand.

Been awhile since I've been here, but I run my FT 450d on a megawatt 30 amp PS, and no problems here, my radio performs well on it....the fan inside the PS is quite too....
