Soaked you. Possibly you should take up another hobby. You never mentioned how much work Mike had to do to your radio or how many hacks he had to find and fix. Remember he fixed something you could not fix and saved a radio. I think it is pretty unfair to say he soaked you.
His time isn't worthless and he has nice test equipment. I wouldn't expect him to be cheap. There's a point where a radio just isn't worth fixing.
I don't watch many repair videos but ido think I have at least seen on from almost everybody and honestly Mike would be the only one i would send a radio to for repair.
No sense in putting $5000.00 in repairs into a 1974 Pinto!
I believe if I were on a fixed income, I would get an estimate or quote first before authorizing a repair. But that's just me.

Not gonna find another hobby because of his greed. Sorry been in this hobby over 30 years, not gonna leave because you suggested me to so go away.
Thinking prices are high is one thing and thinking you deserve things cheaper because of your income level is another case all together.
People are being realistic with you because this is - as you say - a hobby.
Running a business can truly suck...I cannot even FATHOM being in a business dealing in any way with CB radios. Not me, not for one second.
I couldn’t pick Mike from a crowd of two, but from my own experiences I learned very early that behind every paying customer there were three more wanting stuff for free (on a good day). I wasted more time dealing with beggars than I can to even guess - and that time is costly. Behind those there was a dozen scammers wanting to sell you toner packages, or card processing services....and whittling away at your progress any chance they get.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but it’s certainly not my intention to attack you.
The fact for me is, when people asked me for a discount there was only one place it could come from, and that was profit.
The landlord gets his, the bank gets there’s, the suppliers get there’s, and the tax man sure as heck gets his.
That left my share the only part up for negotiation, and often, there just wasn’t much room there.

I will leave this alone now but last words, Mike is one of the good guys around here. He has helped most of us with his informative videos and in dealing with him in the past I have found him to be honest and also fair priced.
I haven't seen any attacks so far, BUT, if I was so inclined I might have said that someone on a fixed income, who should have requested a price quote, but didn't, only to cry "foul" after the fact, was flat out wrong in their accusation.
However, I'm not so inclined...
