I have to laugh at this...
In a way i can "almost" see one (if they are a ham operator) not wanting to see CB equipment at a Hamfest..
But then i have to say...
It is not just CBers selling cb's at hamfests but also ham operators
(as said earlier some selling off their old stuff now that they have their ticket)
I am against a " ham operator " selling cb amps/linears though
Anyways...back to the original post of the guy not wanting cb's sold at hamfests...
re not hamfests about 2 way communications
is not a good part of ham radio about emergency 2 way communications..
So doesn't CB as well as murs as well as frs/gmrs fall within emergency communications
I think this Garbage abut the constant battering needs to stop
Most ham operators came from the ranks of CB
there are plenty of dummies in cb just as there is within ham radio
At the very least
the hamfest benifits in charging for use of the table
if you do not like seeing cb's there
then simply walk on by (and maybe mind your business)

51 years young, started in CB in the 60's when my father got into it. Later "Got my ticket" and became a Ham. Let the ham license lapse for just this reason. I got into radio because it was fun to communicate. The only problem I had was once I became "one of the elite", they started pressuring me to sever ties with my "CB Trash" friends. Don't want to belong to that exclusive a group. Still got lot's of Ham friends but I guess I will just have to be happy being part of the lower life form known as a CB'er.

Never have gotten a Ham license, and may never. But then again, I might. But if I do I'll live by the same code I've lived my entire life. I'll be your friend, and I'll be his friend, too. If that's too difficult for either of you to deal with it's your problem, not mine. I will not cease being a friend to either of you on the other's account. Should our friendship end, it will be your doing, not mine.
Now should I get a license one thing will never happen. I'll no more move up than my South-Of-The-Border born Daddy did when he married my U S born Mama, I'll just add something new and probably great to my life. An added dimension.

I did not say all CB'ers are trashy. But a lot of the ones I knew were. Many of them did not work they got welfare, food stamps, and there house looked like a dump. A few wanted bigger and better things and they moved on. The CB'ers that moved on became well respective Hams. There is a class difference between the two.
Just so you will know I started out as a CB'er too. I had a Midland 13-874 8 ch CB. When is was 14. Moved up to a Navaho 23 ch, then hit the big time with a Midland 13-880 B 23 ch with SSB. I also DX short wave and that's when I knew. Ham radio was the way to go.

Well KA5ROW, you have many good points but also a somewhat flawed view, personaly speaking I'd rather have someone with technical knowledge sell me a radio then some fruit cake that hacks it up and say poetically "It's Loud , on about 5 adjacent channels +&-, but it's loud!!".
Not long Ago i purchased a radio from Moleculo here that has the high power 29 mod done to it, and it is by far the best sounding radio i've used and heard, Yes i'm a CB enthusiat <- be that as it may i agrea with you alot of us are asshats but then again alot of hams are aswell but they just do it politely, so think of it this way human nature is to be defensive and survive at all cost's so many of us attack the weak defend the strong to gain personal gratification and recognition from others, but we tend to loose track of reality and it is to late the damage done .
As for welfare food stamps and that none sense it does not matter if your a Ham or a CB or some circus monkey that lost its job selling peanuts, alot of people are on it and some day you too might have to go to the local shelter and trade in stamps to feed your family.
Basically what im trying to say is forget the ham/cb quarrel and forcus on the HUMAN aspect, where many if not most of us are ignorant self righteous hogey hustlers, Keep the Karma good and youll do just fine.

With attitudes like KA5ROW people still wonder why there is such a rift between CB'ers and Amateur operators. It is this type of bias that keeps many CB'ers from becomming an amateur. The "holier than thou" BS has started more discussions and arguements on forums and message boards than any other single topic.
Calling any CB'ers "trashy" is about like saying the reason that Ham operators wear a mike on their collar is so they can find their way home. Neither one is correct. It only makes the person saying this look like a very small, insignificant person who is not very happy with himself.

Hamfests going back 20 years and earlier may have been more strickly ham gear, but in recent times they have become just big flea markets. The guy's literally clean out the garages and bring everything. This doesn't bother me at all. Most every seller will put their radio goods out front and the other stuff is on the side...in the back ect... There's no use in complaining about what goods one sees at at flea market. No one is being forced to look at anything. I've bought many ancillary items brought along to hamfests. 'Twas a good deal for me and I walked away happy.
Complaints should be directed at the fest operators if one must complain at all. But you'll be wasting your time. They need all the "business" they can get just to keep coming back every year. They'll just shrug their shoulders at you and say "that's the way it is."
If you know you're going to be seeing piles of other-than-ham-radio-gear at a particular hamfest...and that bothers you, then DON'T GO....and shut your yap.

And not only that they can also be used as a beacon. And more need to be on the air. Want surprise me if the goverment dont start selling off some of the ham frequencies before long.
As far as ham vs cb? I am close to 50 myself. Been a cb'er all my life (well since 12) Been a ham about half of that. I have no problem with either. Met good and bad on both sides. Yes hams do good things for the community. CB'ers used too. Remember REACT, Coffee Break, the cb jams, Sure miss those day.
Anyway I enjoy both.
