More channel 6 questions

And it looks like this thread has started to swirl down the drain pipe as many threads like this doo doo.........

Ok, let's get it to back up into the bowl, and out of the pipe, lets not call Mr. Rooter yet. ;)

I think we need an Ebonics expert to truly answer my original questions!

I agree with the poster who turns to ch 6 first, I do the same thing, just to see if the band is open. Been doing that for years, just to see if its worth it to turn the 10M rig on.

The fact that this thing seems so polarizing is just stirring my curiosity more.

More stories please, and can anyone post pictures of really massive amplifiers that have been built poorly? You know, uh, "jerry rigged?" ;) Pics or descriptions of any other "Channel 6 grade" stations?

Thanks, 807

The superball is what is America. The lingo just makes it entertaining, the competition is pure American. You put two lawn tractors side by side and we'll argue on whos the fastest.
The only people on radio who still don't get that are losers who wouldn't talk on it anyway. Why in 2015 are we having this thread? Wish I could copy this old crap from the 90's.
Who cares? I see less and less large boxes every year, but the diehards are still in.
Wait a few years and you'll get you wish. The next cycle's really going to suck.
73..
Yep, Doesn't make a lot of sense to the rest the world though !!!!! Best thing about the cycle minimum .No superbowl.

Oh God. Those tubes are 833's and then begin to suck at about 20 MHz and up. Used MANY of those in one kilowatt class AM broadcast transmitters over the years. As for the construction technique all I have to say is SWEET JESUS WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!!

When I was running a horizontal 7 element Maco and an Ameritron AL 1500, I could talk skip consistently on Ch 6. I have more fun talking ground wave.

Ive read ch 6 started out with a small group if guys that liked to compete with each othet. Everyone had a CB back and word gets around, so then so all the guys who wanted to fight would go there. I think it could have easily been any channel but it happened to be 6. No different than ch 19, 28, 38 lsb, 27.555, 14.313 or the little bar in the bad part of town.

There are some high quality high power stations out there but most guys don't have that kind of money and don't know how to build it. Most just have to believe some misinformation passed down from old timers they respect. It happens in ham radio just as often.

The ch 6 guys are competitive and lot of people believe anything they can do to make the watt meter swing higher is a good thing. It doesn't matter what color you are or what channel you hang out on, this is happening. Most don't believe you can have a powerful station and not bleed 20-40 channels.
