Mounted my 980

I expected much more from a Uniden, but . . .
Again, not disputing anyone's experience with the radio, just saying...
It's quiet now.

I wish there was a way to fix this for you - but perhaps it's best that the problem is left to itself.

I had a RANT prepared - but I felt that it would not be appropriate to post it. The better man inside took over and said that "This is enough" so I left it there.

Besides, the radio I love is no longer produced - for something so basic - I got a lot out of it, in friends, fun times and experience.

So don't know how else to say this but, Uniden tried to "top that" and failed.

It's on them...no one else...

Only reason i got 2 ,where i bought truck fuel i got points on a card.1 nite i was toldd i had 12 hours to cash in so the 980 was on sale cheep so i bought 2..wish id researched cause 1 is erly version other is newer version.older 1 is slowly growing muddy colors on screen

I told some local fellas on the air that I had tossed it into the trash can, and why. One texted me he would like it for parts because his was dropping power output. Two others said theirs were working just fine. I told the local come and get it before the trash truck ran this morning. He did.
He also walked away with a UV-5R and charger, a SMA to UHF adapter, and a copper pipe VHF/UHF copper pipe vertical fan dipole (homebrew).
He's been a tech for 3 years listening only via scanner to local 2m traffic.
He was an excited fellow. I showed him around my antenna farm, and encouraged him to get involved and upgrade to general (he said he wanted to do it). Now he thinks he found an Elmer. . . He doesn't know he has about the most ignorant Elmer. (n)

But you made him happy. :)

I have 2 980’s. One display dims and the other does not. Sooooo, my mastermind came up with the idea to take the bottom cover off and remove the speaker and put that cover on the top with a fan on it. Works well. So I use that one as my base SSB radio.
All AM is done on tube radios. I’ll take tube receive over any SS radio and that includes big dollar exports.(even though sometimes I don’t want to hear ants farting in the background of the person I’m talking to)

I bought one from amazon and it went bad in a month .got a refund. Bought another same thing. Turned out my imax had was going bad and I finally saw it on the meter. Bought number three and used it in the house and then mobil.still working and sold it to a guy who still uses it. I like the anytone 666 also Galaxy 959 Both are good on AM and SSB and I had to adjust the Galaxy a little to be on frequency with The 7610 icom buy it works good and no drift in the house. The Anytone 6666 is a great radio and not to hard to figure out the menu with the manual. I would not want to use it in the mobil and mess with the little knobs.
