Yeah, it came back around, but I took the cover off, and discovered a missing 2SC945. My RF power doesn't do much in the way of reducing RF power, and I suspect the missing transistor might have something to do with it.

There are a lot of amp builders who put together a nice looking amp, but have no idea how to make it perform properly. There are construction techniques that prevent self-oscillation and harmonic generation, that most "garage built" people don't understand. Amps without tightly wound input and output transformers with excessive lead length and improper input/output capacitance will never sound clean on the air. This "garage-built" is an example of that. It may look good on the outside, but it's what on the inside that counts.

I was thinking maybe he should completely take that amp out of the circuit and then test his radio for performance for a comparison. Of coarse he might only be able to do locale talk but at least see if the problem disappears. Then a little KL-203 P from Cooper Electronics is cheap to get back in the game.

As a point of fact, I have taken the amp out of line to test already, and the issue persists.

No one in here really knows you and how you operate or what you have done or not. We are just looking to try to help you. Have you taken that Galaxy 2517 out of the circuit also and still have the problem ?
Common sense dictates that one would begin the troubleshooting process, by taking everything out of line, and testing the radio itself, which I did.
In the beginning, I thought the amplifier was the problem, but it was just protesting, due to CMC getting into my equipment, which I have resolved by replacing the antenna and moving my equipment farther away from it, as my equipment used to be directly under it more or less, and the base of said antenna, being only 25 feet above ground level.
My apologies for being so snippy, it's just that these never ending problems have me rather short fused. Every time I resolve a problem, another one rears it's ugly head.
No problem My fault figuring you were new. But checked your profile and I see you've been at this a while now. I understand because seems like I'm always battling some radio problem because I have too many radios to fool with. I just got back from a small road trip and enjoy listening to my Galaxy DX 979 when the external speaker doesn't cut out. I get frustrated because I opened the radio up once and couldn't see anything loose in the port so now I have to try another speaker to see if the Cobra speaker pin is under size. Sometimes a man has to work at not spitting bullets or using the BFH. Really Ps you off when the radio is sounding superb and it cuts out when your driving. LOL

If the radio is sounding crunchy on ssb, my first guess is that the output bias is set incorrectly. The best way to listen to your transmit audio is with a second radio with headphones and no antenna. This is a great way to adjust the mic level too. The first thing to try would be to reduce the mic level and see if it helps. If not, and it is on USB and LSB then I would say that the bias is wrong.
That radio has a talkback, or "monitor gain" circuit, and I sound great. I'll have to try listening through a different radio.
I sent it back to the dealer (Scott's Radios) to check it out, and he says he can't hear anything wrong with it, so I asked if he's checked it on the scope or analyzer. Waiting to hear back.

Sent it out, it checks out with a clean bill of health.
Must be the amplifier, and seeing as I don't have the equipment, it's next in line to go get checked out.
