Saturday night I turned on the power supply Turned on the meter light and turned on the radio. Now out-put at all, the meter didn't move at all and the display on the radio didnt move either. The radio test in the radio FAIL.
No out-put. Sending it back after printing the prepaid label. The radio was never opened after the factory put the screws in it during assembly. I would like to know what happened but they will send a replacement so no worries.

That radio is junk. It 'aint got no swing and no audio and you cant do squat to it... I'll keep my old rigs...

Sorry to hear yours died so soon, new doesn't always mean it's going to be trouble free. I'm using one daily, got it right after they started selling them. Did the beep mode, unlocked the clarifier, cranked the dead key down and added a CR577 mic. Everyone says it's one of best sounding radio's I've run.

Thats what I like a radio out of the box, and add a power mic and talk dead on stable on ssb or AM and talk to where ever with a 100 watt box on a stick antenna. I am just not into screaming loud overmodulated talk over everyone high power radios.
I know a guy who runs his connex without the cover and all ways sounds like crap. and I can have him turn it up and down all night LOL

Well I had a little time to compare the replacement radio to the one that crapped out and . I was on 38 lsb when I couldn't sleep at 3 am and Dead no body on. about 1 minute later I hear a radio slightly off frequency and he tunes his Kenwood 520 to the channel and We talked for about 30 minutes from cold to 30 minutes He tuned to the frequency before I talked to him. the 980 Stayed on frequency, course and fine clarifier straight up.
I got a good report again. fresh out of the box, I hope this one is not a defect. I do like this radio. On am the Radio was set to 3 and I changed the Mic gain to 4 and had the D104 M6B set to 7 That seems high But I will be asking for reports from others at different distances. As people have said it's not an AM audio monster. It does get out very nicely and also sounds clear.
Once again I would(y) say 5 Stars

I wouldn't be concerned with it not being an audio monster. The CRE-8900 reviews said the same thing but my 8900 performs well on SSB. Rock steady on frequency means a lot in the SSB world. I make DX contacts with my 8900 in a DTB state of tune and with no amp behind it.

The RD16HHF1 final is very sensitive to static and other electrical disturbances. The tab on the mosfet is connected to the Source pin.

Any electrical interference that comes from your antenna, be it static charge, or some residual lightning will get into the final, since the final is bolted directly to the chassis.

What I have done, is take a mica insulator, and install it between the final and the chassis. This isolates the final from the chassis and reduces the risk of the final seeing any unusual electrical disturbances, voltages, or currents from the chassis.

Hope this helps!

~Cheers~
