My horizontally polarized homebrew single wire delta loop at 36' AGL outperforms my Antron 99 on DX about 95% of the time................I've regularly seen a 3dB to 6dB signal increase when switching from the A99 to the delta loop.

It's always been a mystery to me why operators who mostly talk DX choose to spend money on a name brand vertical, when a homemade horizontal antenna will outperform it most of the time!

Now if you talk local a lot, then it totally makes sense to have a vertical.
I figure the best plan is to have two antennas, a vertical and a horizontal of some sort. Beams are fantastic if you have room, but even a horizontal wire will work better than any vertical on DX!
