In a few months Im looking to buy me a new radio, to be used on the base..

Ive been doing the research on a N2 radio, with the black back ground and green numbers, ect....

But in the same sentence, what else can I get for the price of one of these radios ?....

I do hold a Tech ticket here and enjoyed talking dx on the 10m band while I ran a 2995dx, thanks..

Alinco Sr8t or ICOM 718 are calling your name. Seriously if you hold a tech ticket why would you want to buy an inferior product?

X2. Why pay all that money for a junk Export radio? Add a couple hundred more and buy a better quality rig with more bands and modes that you can use as you upgrade you ticket. ;)

While I wouldn't call the RCI radios junk, it would be a better option to get a HF radio in case you upgrade. If you go the export route, don't fall prey to snake oil salesmen ( Snake Customs,Radio Active ETC ...) with their "peaks & tunes". All you need is a properly aligned radio.

No I agree they are not junk per say but they are not amateur radios as they are advertized to be. They do work and many hams do use them but they are very limiting if one does upgrade. If you're spending x amount on something why not spend little be more and get a ton more.

the 2970N2 is a very good radio I use one on ten meters and always get good reports never a bad one at all. but a really nice radio that you could buy used off of a site like Qrz.com and have a better radio would be a Kenwood TS-480HX a 200 watt radio that can be had for around $750 to $950 used. but if you don't want to spend that kind of money then you won't go wrong with a 2970N2 I've talked all over the world with mine with just a Wilson 5000 mag mount in the mobile and on the base I use an Imax 2000 for 10 meters and if I hear them I can get back to them.

You and I both know who these radios are marketed towards but why aren't they amateur radios??? They do operate on 10 & 12 meters as advertised, and some of the older ones will do 15M.

Just compare crystal filter quality, lack of front end, bandpass filters, crappy 1st and 2nd mixer, low IMD, low IP3 and so on. See the difference?

10-4 good info there for sure....

The HF radios, which ones sounds good on the 11m band ?....
As well as other bands...

Im going to try and run a clean setup when I get this beam up, Ive ran a dang amp for so long don't no if I can run my station without a amp in line...
But talking dx is my thing, Im just not into talking local very much at all....talking to these locals here, well that's something else, u would have to no these guys..
