Northstar's hot August 36LSB Contest.

I am in the Pasadena area. I drive up to Chantry Flats but I would have the mountain behind me. The San Gabriel mountains run East and west. Think it’s on only mountain range in North America to do so.

Getting on top of the hill is best, but not always possible.
If talking local I go to a spot that covers the area I want to talk to.
Have a look at this site, might give you some options.

Usually for the past few years by the middle of August the DX starts falling off here on 11 meters. You never know when it's going to roll in after that. May and June and July its about a daily thing.

realtime hf propagation prediction
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=hf+propagation+prediction&t=h_&ia=web

high levels of solar x-ray activity are ionizing the d-layer causing attenuation and absorption of hf signals and preventing them from reaching the f1 and f2 layers necessary for long distance hf propagation. this has been taking place prior to the contest and is ongoing. currently, no estimated recovery time has been established.
