I am in the Pasadena area. I drive up to Chantry Flats but I would have the mountain behind me. The San Gabriel mountains run East and west. Think it’s on only mountain range in North America to do so.

Getting on top of the hill is best, but not always possible.
If talking local I go to a spot that covers the area I want to talk to.

We should make it a weekend that the DX is already turned on. It seems that just picking a weekend and then turning on the DX can be problematic.

Usually for the past few years by the middle of August the DX starts falling off here on 11 meters. You never know when it's going to roll in after that. May and June and July its about a daily thing.
