Palomar ERF-2030+

We do not speak of that place here nor do we mention any names, legs will get switched and hineys will be busted.

But...

Mercy is for the weak, we do not train to be merciful here.

Well to do something I don’t usually do, drift towards the actual topic...

I believe my buddy LeapFrog said it earlier in this thread, the 13N10’s are stronger. My recent project radio proves this (to me) and I believe the whole hoopla of the 2030’s is just a bunch of BS. Matter of fact, we know so because of a video that was posted of some of them refusing to die without an antenna connected. I’d like to see that unmentionable person try that, I’d be curious to see the results.

That ballsy move is a diversion to keep heat off someone else, that’s all. I couldn’t make it through the first minute though cause the crappy music.

Hang on, let me get my popcorn... ok, I'm good.

~Cheers~

I second this, the FQP3N10 is stronger. The specs are better all around for what I need them for, and it isn't some voodoo-hoodoo rebranded mystery part.
The new NXP parts seem promising!

Well it depends on who you ask actually or who actually voices their opinion. I believe they’re rebadged and not as strong as the 13n10’s, that’s my opinion.

Someone else believes it’s because none of us can figure out how to use them.

When they start curing cancer or saving little kids, I’ll worry with them. Until then, it bores my mind and I don’t really care.

I've tried the n10's and didn't get any better than the 520's. I biased them the same as 520's and even a little higher but made no difference. Not sure if I might be have gotten a weak batch or may be didn't get the right ones ..

Like I said before months ago. There is only one person that shows a clean envelope from the 2030+ parts. More power to him if he likes them. I don't care for the 2030+ myself. Nobody has shown a comprehensive datasheet for them. They have a large gate capacitance that make them difficult to drive in some applications. And there is always the chance that they could become unavailable at any time. I'm not a fan of the the 13N10s or the 520s either, but the 2030+ isn't my idea of a good substitute. Keep in mind, I'm not a tech, I only work on my own radios and I've built a couple homebrew SSB ham rigs. For me personally, I'll spend a few extra dollars on parts that were designed for RF, and have the associated documentation. It's just easier for me.
Now, the 4 matched 2030+s that I put in my 4400 Turbo amp section, are still in it, and holding up just fine. The amount of time that it took me to figure out how to get them linear wasn't really worth it though. The really low gate impedance/large gate capacitance threw me off. Their performance is fine, but it's nothing to write home about.
Honestly, I think their selling point is that you can buy them in sets matched by their gate threshold voltages, for use in parallel with only 1 bias adjustment, like in a Stryker or my 4400T for instance. I guess if I was building a bunch of radios, that would save me the time of matching up pairs/sets myself, but again, I'm not a tech.

Why are we still being this dead horse anyways? Lol.
