Don't know how many people have been following the news (Coronavirus) but China has basically been shut down for over a month. My buddy said his company is getting notices of delay of 45 days or longer for their products (consumer goods, not radios) from the factories.

I expect that the radio industry will feel some effect, not sure how severe it will be since most radio inventory doesn't turnover that quickly. If the factory shutdowns over there continue though some things might be harder to get a hold of this summer. Things like this also sometimes lead to the discontinuation of certain products.

Be a sad day if China (or heck N Korea) did this on purpose since we raised import tariffs and knowing the USA would shut down imports too because of it. All speculation of course.

DJI the drone guys had suspended but apparently are resuming shipping.

The conspiracy theories around this are unbleiveable. I won't mention any here, but a Google search would find them I am sure. There is a little truth in every rumor so it is hard to tell what to believe. I will say that if you only watch American news, you are only getting half the information at best.

Idk about anybody else, but I can deal without cheap Chinese junk for a few months, if it means not worrying about getting a virus. And yes there is always lots of conspiracy theories out there. I remember a guy trying to tell me the California wildfires where really government created nanobots, and that he could see them in the swirling embers on tv. I already try to buy as little Chinese stuff as possible. And I realize that is hard to do in this day and age.

Here's another one - The Chinese have found a way to incorporate the Corona virus into IC's allowing the spread of the virus to the western world, leading to world domination :D

The Chinese figured out how to put the virus into the thermal paste for the ic’s.

Well to circle back, this is how frustrating things really are...

We have become so dependent on China for the Just-In-Time Inventory - we now have to survive on "parts" we've managed to store during the good times...

Sounds Biblical...

We need to step back and review our needs and resources...

Doubtful. Most people working in a factory want $16.00 and hour, people in those countries would happily work for $16.00 a day.

Yeah, I've dealt with a lot of the factories over there and they have dorms (like colleges) at the factories where all of the employees live during the year and then they go home during new years to visit family. That's why having them go back to work is a huge risk, because the factory workers are in close quarters and the virus could spread.

The 45 days is what the factories are saying for a delay but add to that parts shortages and shipping delays and I bet many items could be delayed 3 months to even 6 months.

And most of them will work there for life. Job hopping does not work over there because you would be seen as disloyal.

I read an article about US vs Mexico auto workers one time. It’s been a bit, so I’m “winging” the actual figures.

Basically, it boiled down to a US auto worker costing the company $40/hr by the time health care, retirement, and other benefits were figured in.

The same $40 would get a 60/hr workweek from a Mexican.
