Range of an Antron-A99 antenna

error

I do nightly contacts within 200 kms with 12watts

22 hours after many years.

Buenos Aires-Gualeguaychu-Paysandu-Fray Bentos and more cities.

and that is not spatial wave has no qsb,

the signal is weak, but sustainedwith clear audio.

nosepc

And you proved it was ground wave how? Ground wave won't propagate that far on 11m especially with only 12 watts. It is most likely direct wave with some refraction thrown in. This mode can also have no QSB.

Just to be clear for a minute, there can be some short groundwave propagation on 11m over a saltwater path but not so much over land. The ground conductivity just is not there. I just thought I should make that clear before "someone" jumps all over me again after making assumptions. Since my previous statement was made in reference to communications taking place over a non-saltwater path I stand by what I said earlier.LF and VLF will travel thousands of miles via ground wave.

I do not make assumptions, and repeat like a parrot what was written in a book.

I do every day experiences. (y)

No,no,I didn't mean you when I said about making assumptions. I was thinking about another member here who was making ignorant comments about a couple of my posts because he was making an assumption about something completely different than from what I said. I thought he would soon be making a post in this thread.

As for parroting what I see in a book, I don't do that either just because I see something. If it is something I know in fact to be true and is relevant to the discussion I will quote it or post a link to it like anyone else. I also do every day experiences. Every day for the last 34 years that is. LOL Got started in radio back in 1979 and have read a lot and experienced a lot since then.Took electronics courses and made a career of it for 22+ years. I was just asking HOW you determined it to be ground wave, true ground wave and not the mode of propagation that probably 90% of the people erroneously call ground wave when in fact the mode is usually direct wave with possibly another type of enhancement such as refraction or forward scatter. Not looking to be a smart ass but just looking for info.

Yeah, that's poor range, My A-99 gets about 122 and beyond miles per foot barefoot, talked to 3 up in New York and one in Canada today barefoot about 15watts if that on sideband that's over 1600 miles to NY and over 2200 miles to Alberta Canada and my antenna is only at rooftop eve level.

LOL
73's
My Antron 99 is at roof top level mounted on a 6ft mast pole. I've just been listening hoping to hear some dx. Im getting between 5-7db of noise level. Is that normal for a low level roof mounted antenna?

Take it easy CK , I'm not going to be like that without contributing something.

Register, login , make a coverage map of your location. it isn't hat hard and otherwise a useful tool. It was made primarily for microwave links so it's more useful for lone of sight estimations. In some cases 10 feet will make a difference, in others 100 feet won't . This doesn't mean your HF or 11m station is hopeless. It just means there isn't much your antenna can see. What your antenna can hear and why is discussed above in some detail
