Reclaim LSB 16

Skip on LSB 16 has been non-existent. LSB 35-40 hasn't been much better. I haven't heard it this quiet in years. The good side of that coin is that I am getting phenomenal local range on AM, FM and SSB.

It obviously isn't going to work all of the time, but it has worked well often enough that I'd still like to keep the reclaim LSB 16 effort alive.
The sun has been more active lately than it has been in many many years. There's been literally dozens of large flares and CME's in the last couple months.
We need an active sun for DX, but not too active, and right now we are seeing the results of a too-active-sun..........the ionosphere has been stirred like a pot of gumbo and it results in piss poor radio conditions.

Out here 38 has been pretty much the only channel with any DX lately, and it's been all California, Arizona and Utah by day and Hawaii and sometimes Australia in the evening. Which is still better than nothing at all !

It's very very rare to go through a whole day here with no conditions at all. Even on the worst days there's weak short openings and I manage to make a brief DX contact or two.

It has been weird down here. Usually summer brings lots of afternoon thunderstorm activity and interesting skip options tied to it. I'm going to stay the course and keep trying over the summer. If the ionosphere returns to normal, there should be some skip opportunities waiting for us.

SATURDAY, JULY 6th and SUNDAY, JULY 7th

We started the "Reclaim LSB 16" effort a few years back with nets that we'd schedule once a month and then every two weeks. I'm thinking of sticking to something like that going forward.

The 4th of July falls on a Thursday this year. That means lots of folks will be celebrating long holiday week-ends.

That Saturday will be July 6th. Sunday will be the 7th. Mark your calendars and check your SWRs. Let's focus our efforts on that week-end.

got Mr Greg 945 on 16lsb on the 25th. 1st and only time i made contact on that frequency. we always throw out a cq on 16 when the radio is on
You sounded good with the strange conditions we have up here. Thanks for the qso!

I tried several times over the 6th and the 7th. Nothing. Skip conditions were pretty dead across the band. I did hear a 357 on LSB 38. He said he was near John Wayne airport in Los Angeles. One or two other California stations came in, too. 429 in Gettysburg, PA also came in on LSB 38. But LSB 16...nada...dead.
